G day fellas,

I have just taken delivery of a new car and when i bought it i was asked
if i wanted paint protection etc on it, when i found out the price i nearly
fell over backwards.

In the mean time i had the touch up guys come and fix my misses old car's stone
chips etc so it was ready for sale, he told me that it is just really good
silicone based polish.

So paint experts out there what is the best polish to protect the new paint
with??? They reckon it lasts 12 months. Even tho if you read the fine print
it says all marks or Bird SH&T must be removed within 24 hours.

I just want to try and protect the showroom shine and appearance.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

i never believe anything can last if the car is exposed to the weather. i always think a nice wipe on ,wipe off polish like mequires canuaba wax is like sun screen. to protect your cars skin it needs to be applied every couple of months or less. i think any of them like auto glym super polish i think it is, the above mentioned one and a mothers alternative would do you well. when you put one of these polishes on you can feel the difference in the paint. i try to do the lux as often as posible as its always in the weather but when i had the tonner it got a loving every couple of months cos it lived in the shed.

I always heard stay away from silicon unless its on a women and then it will cost you money

Carnoba wax from Brazil is the best in the world and only $5k a jar

I too just brought a new car and use the same stuff I used on my repainted Hatch

Bowdens own $200 buys you the complete kit car wash, polish, detail cleaner a bucket instructions and heaps of fancy buffing cloths and a shamy
designed and made for Aussie conditions in Aussie using mainly Aussie ingredients

and if your real keen they have the full range of interior cleaners and stuff glass wheels metal polish etc,
Plus you can apply for invites to visit their garage for the best private muscle car collection in Aussie

i remember watching a dude on telly that caters for high end car detailing and charges 5k a clean. like cruiza said he uses the 5k tub of carnuba wax and massages it on to the car by hand. how lovely.

Whilst I am not an expert in the field, I am very padantic and spend alot of time detailing my cars, I get all my products from;

Car Care Products

They are also excellent for advice.

What I have learnt over the years is that there is not one product that suits all paint finishes, best to speak to someone that has experience with the brand of car and ask them what product they use and recommend.

For example on our Accord Euro that has factory PPG paint I use Duragloss and Menzerna only.

I would have thought polish is abrasive and not needed for new paint, just wax it to protect it IMO.

It is as Mr QLD says a BMW 3 Series, they wanted $1295.00 for paint protection, hahahhaahha

From what i can gather it is a silicone based polish/wax that is applied to the car.

i have a brochure here somewhere but it does not tell you what they use.

Repo liquid polish and Liquid Turtle Wax applied by hand with cheesecloth. I've tried lots of different products over the years and ended up going back to the Repo and the Turtle. For a new car or new paint job the Repo polish won't be needed, just the wax.

Haven't tried Bowdens range though, should do that one day.

I agree with what Terra LX has said. When I had both my cars resprayed in 2 pac they said not to polish it just wax it. No need to polish new paint. I use Maguires spray wax on my hatch with new paint. Really good stuff!
