Ouch!
You can go larger than that. Sixes on the front? - only for a straight line car.
I have the same 8 inch wheels on the front of the LX sedan as the rear with 195/60/15 for the front.
I think the suggestion that you take the car to be professionally measured up is a good one.

I want the car to steer easier so opting for 6" with 195's and running the 7"s on the back as your only allowed a 1" difference on rims plus am told its illegal to run 8" rims here in W.A anyway so I decided to go this option,I just want this thing going again....my Daily driver 180SX just doesnt have that lovely V8 noise!!.

You must have one of the widest 195s ever made, I've had 205s on an 8" wheel before and they are quite stretched - the sidewalls are far from straight (they taper outward from the tread to meet the bead of the rim)Sidewalls go pretty much straight up and down with 195 on 8 inch (203mm) rim. Handles like a dream. Try it, you will like it.

First two are of 195/60/15 on 8 inch rim. Third pic is same size rim with 235/60/15.

Last is 215/60/14 on a 7 inch.
Appologies but would not let me load all pics in a single post.
The pictures are a bit deceptive - there is quite a visual difference in the way the tyres sit on the varying rim widths.
Take your pick.

R

Ideally you would be better looking at a 4 inch BS to be certain of clearance.

They said they would ring around for another wheel and call me today, what a surprise ..I got no call today so looks like ive now got to chase these up elsewhere myself and will probably cost me more now too as I'll be up for freight costs, why do shops never call you back when they know you REALLY need the parts,it happens to me all the time!

Take your brakes up and test them in Mills wheel before you order them from somewhere else
Or we'll be seeing a for sale advert for wheels or brakes sooner rather than later

I'll have to now look for other Weld Wheel sellers in Australia but not having much luck?,failing that different wheels,I know the Convo Pro will fit but not overly keen on those, theres a Convo ET that look bloody great but are pricey.
My Studs it turns out are all 7/16

I have 225x60x15 on the rears and they fit with not much room to spare, now the fronts only have 185x60x15 and for some frOcking reason stick outwards a lot!?= the tyres will definately scrub on the fenders wheel arches when I go over a bump even though the lips are rolled it will still scrub.
The hoppers kit I ordered was supose to be with the torana offset hubs but Im starting to think they've sent me the other one's that push the offset out 8mm ( VT Hubs?),oh the joy of it all....

Another method is to measure the thickness of the spacer used between the brake caliper and the adapter plat.

They scrub before full lock so its anoying and maks a horrible noise, the fact that my old wheels REALLY rubbed in the same spot doesnt help and are damaged from those so will have to fix this before I make things worse plus my tyres are brand new so dont wana rub them away...

I was alost positive I wouldnt fit 8" rims on the rear but after fitting the 15 x 7" with 5.5 B/S 225/60 tyre it looks like I might have just got an 8" on there but would need 5.5" B/S again for it to fit on MY car might even change the rears later down the track?. Theres just bugger all dish on the rears now but will do for now, still pretty happy with it!

I've got a question for you, in the end did the Welds fit over the 290mm Hopper Stopper kit? I've got a set of Weld Draglites 15 x 5s for the front of my LH and have found I need to upgrade the brakes. I was looking at Hopper Stoppers but not so sure now after reading your story...any help or tips appreciated. Thanks

Yes mate the Weld Draglites clear the Hoppers Brakes by quite a bit as per some pics contained in this thread, you said you have 15 x5!? geeze Im running 15 x 6" and I thought that was small.Hi 76 SLR, I've just been reading through all your dramas, good to see you eventually got through it.

1)The hoppers kit is fine mate, though not cheap= just make sure after you fit it all up that the brake rotors are central in the caliper brackets if not then like me you will have to add 1-2 small shims in with the cylindrical spacers to centre the rotors.
2) make sure those thick adaptor Plates sit flush on the sub axles, mine were fine but some stubs have cast marks that need smoothed off so the the adaptor plates sit flush on the Stubs.
3) Run the Brake lines under the stub axles,I put some rubber hose over the Brake Line where its touching on the Stub Axles for protection and cable tied them onto the Stub.
This might help? check step 13 about brake line route
