I am hopeing someone can help !
I have bought a front nose cone spoiler for my SLR5000 from Rare Spares but it has a completely different profile on the fender ends were it meets with the existing flares ... Is this a common problem when fitting these reproduction parts ?.
I also have a one peice spoiler for the front as well which is a very different profile to the one from Rare Spares , I beleive it is designed more for use without flares ! It has a number plate space and doesn't hang anywhere near as low as the 2 peice .
Does anyone have photo's of original front spoilers ? everything I can find basically looks like its a Rare Spares item . I know the SLR didn't come out factory with the flares but I still want to be true to the model with the front spoiler .

Help please

I think alot of the reproduction front spoilers are made to suit no flares and you simply cut them if you intend to use them with flares

i was told the short one is for 6 cyl cars, if no flares on car do not cut. but if u r using the long type with flares just trim off the excess were it moulds around the bottom of gaurd. but dummy fit the flare first to line it all up. this is what i had to do with my front lower spoiler, and it turned out fine. ;)

There are two basic types of spoilers, the originals were plastic. Typically the ends are cutoff when you fit flares although some are made for flares only.

Two piece LH SLR5000, L34 and A9X with provision for brake ducts.

One piece LX SLR5000 and SS which is not as deep as the two piece and does not have provision for brake ducts.

I have also seen one piece L34 style spoilers although the was not an original one piece L34 style spoiler.

ahhh , thats it spot on ! I have the one peice as pictured in your photo ... Do I use this one and cut it down so it is the originalspoiler or use the wrong one from Rare spares ??? I am doing up an ORIGINAL numbers matching slr but we are putting the flares on it ...
Thoughts ?

2 piece all the way. The ones Rares make are close to the original.
LH SLR5000, L34 and A9X all used 2 piece.
LX SLR5000 and SS used one piece which was smaller with slits rather than ducts.

Therefore the LX SLR5000 should have the same spoiler as the red SS above.

Once you fit flares to the car it is no longer original so you may as well finish the job properly and fit the two piece L34/A9X style spoiler. There are two different types of flares for the sedan, L34 and A9X. The A9X rear flares are wider and mounted differently to the L34.

There are many different manufacturers of fibreglass spoilers and flares, lots of them are extremely poorly made.

Wilsons Fibreglass have a good reputation for spoilers and flares. Wilsons also make brake ducts to suit the L34/A9X front spoiler. I am not sure which style of flares Wilsons make.

Based on the number of cars I have seen with botched flare jobs, it would appear that fitting flares is not as easy as it looks. If you are going to do it yourself then I would buy a wreck to practice on. If you are going to pay someone to do the job then make sure that you have looked at a couple of Toranas that they have flared. It is also worth considering that the value of the car will be significantly reduced by cutting the guards and fitting flares.

There are a few threads on this forum showing how to cut guards for flares.

Thanks very much for all the info ... helps out greatly . The body work is being done by a profesional and the flares were already fitted some 20 years ago . I am not cutting the gaurds although we have moulded the front fenders a little for more turning clearence , It was a big debate with me and the wife whether we got rid of the flares but in the end we decided to keep them on there !
Thanks again
