Cheers.

Awesome work Kush! Are you going to fill the crossmember access holes? Looking really good so far mister!!!

Tim, I want to fill those holes really badly!
But out here in The Isa, rego guys are a bit behind the times. As I was explaining to the blue plate man, he was looking at me like I was a raving lunatic. They just don't understand..... I'll see how I go further down the track.

If all else fails, I'll get one of the lads at work to spin some plugs up on the lathe :)

I hear ya! When I did my brothers car I reskinned the whole chassis with 1.2mm zinc. That's why my mod plate guy didn't mind me cutting the holes in the side. It doesn't matter though if the holes stay there, it looks awesome as it is. You're doing a great job!

Thanks mate, that means a lot. Most of my inspiration came from your bros car.

Toranamat69, I know....... I get a sly smirk every time I look at it!
LX Torry Freak, thanks mate. :)
I'm currently working on this bit

Posted Image

I didn't like how that bit with the hole in it (the one in the centre of the photo) came out to meet the ledge thing...... So I fixed it.
I also fixed that stooooopid looking lump on the far right because it annoyed me immensely.

I'll put up the pics tomorrow or Wednesday :)

Hi there! It's me again! :)

Continuing on from my last post, this is where I'm up to.....

And now for the lumpectomy......

Posted Image

So now it sort of matches the passenger side a bit better :)

I really don't know if it will be visible with the engine in, but I just didn't like looking at it the way it was.

I've still got to do a bit of fine tuning on it, but I'll have an hour or so after work today, so ill do the touch ups then. :)

Well, I managed to get a couple of little things done this weekend on the mighty hatch.

I've now started doing the drivers side.....

Posted Image
Posted Image

The work done in the above pics was a bit arsey. I didn't think I could get the steel to shape the right way, but it all worked out and I got a kick out of it. Plus, it looks strange :)

Next up is this hole where the steering column and clutch pokes out.

Posted Image

This does not suit a smoothed out engine bay..... so I had to do something about it.

I made a cardboard template up

Posted Image

Then cut out the hole for the steering column from the original piece, and put it over the template. (I flipped it around so the lip on the hole faced inwards instead of outwards into the bay because it looks neater)

Posted Image

Then I marked around where I needed to on the template and cut it out. I transferred it to the sheetmetal and welded it up.

Posted Image

Cleaned it up an welded it in :)

Posted Image

Now to grind the welds flush and put a few coats of spray putty, sand it back and put a bit of etch on it to see how it looks.

Tomorrow if I have time maybe :)

Nice progress. Thats a cool way of smoothing out the dimples on the back bits of the wheelarches.

Why would you put spray putty on before etch???

Looks good anyway.

Cheers.

Yeah Bomber, I'm often a little bit drunk.

I meant to say all that in reverse, silly me :)

I didn't get to do it today because I got sent to a shutdown and I'll be doing it for a few days. It sux because I wanted to get it done.

Hello Torana friends,

Well I finally got a bit of time over the Easter break (which I also had my birthday and not ONE of you lousy bastards send me a new diff or a shiny new steering wheel !!!)

Just as I was about to finish up where I left off from my last post, with a grinder in hand and sporting steely gaze............. The grinder lept from my grasp and slashed right through my front chassis rail!

Here's the chunk of Torana that my grinder had distaste for.......

Posted Image
Posted Image

It really pissed me off because the kink that you can see in it, was actually going to be a feature of my engine bay!

So anyway, this is what I did. I've been DYING to try out my new sheetmetal folder!

Posted Image
Posted Image

Then I chopped it to size and welded it in :)

Posted Image

Then made the top bit up

Posted Image

Aaaaaand........ zapped it up!

Posted Image

After a tickle with my spiteful grinder

Posted Image
Posted Image

I still need to run a weld along the wheel arch bit but i think it came up ok :buttrock:
