The hotel where they are drinking in the afternoon was the Sundowner Hotel, which was located on the cnr of Punchbowl and Canterbury Rd, Punchbowl. It's now the Croation Club, although if you look over the fence on Canterbury rd you can still see part of the footprint of the original building.

Ann's address is described in the movie as Stretham Ave Panania, which would have been correct at the time of the movie, as the suburb name of Picnic Point was not gazetted until the late 80's, even though the name was in common use.

The drive-in restaurant where Kev picks up Bob was the Big Chief restaurant on Parramatta Rd at Granville, which was a well-known site for burnouts and illegal drag racing on weekends. Its now a furniture shop.

The wrecking yard where Kev worked was located on Canterbury Rd Bankstown, almost directly opposite Stacey St, this area was absorbed by the adjacent caryard and is now empty. The driveway to the yard is still there.

I was present in the carpark in Bankstown Square when they filmed Kev dropping Ann off for work, just outside the Coles parcel pickup area.

grant.

Next year - 2012 - will mark 35 years since the making of this ICONIC MOVE.

Is there sufficient interest to have a 'do' or 'run/meet' through the areas of filmng in the suburbs of south west Sydney (aka Panania/Punchbowl)? Where would be a good area to START and then FINISH (would need large turnout areas). Imagine having cast members there as well?! Contacts?

Ideas and thoughts welcome....... OLD HOLDENS .... We will remember them!

Dave

I thought that pub in the movie looked like one on the corner of Punchbowl & Canterbury Roads. It's now a Croation club or something like that.

Not so sure about that, I grew up in the area in the 60s and 70s, I went to Picnic Point High School which is just down the road from Stretham Avenue. The school opened in 1961. The party scene was shot in Brockman Avenue Revesby Heights, I was offered a bit part as an extra but was too busy (doh!). several of my friends are in the party scene(s).

Ok lets keep things in perspective here.

The question now arises with this movie:

Does it warrant a 'cult status/cult following'??

Must keep in mind the settting and time frame (ie late 70s) and what was happening in Australia at the time.

DOES anyone know what become of the 'GIG' (the waiter who served Kev and
Anne at SIDS Restaurant in the film.) HE IS A LEGEND!

I would say its a Cult film.

Another bloke at work who first saw it years ago (he's old) calls it a cult film.

Cheers.

He probably didn't get paid much for what he did both in the movie and as a waiter. Not enough to buy a Torana anyway.

And no I am not the GIG. He had a posh accent!

isnt there another 'gig'?....in the scene where theyre getting chased by the cops after the party, and they pull into the driveway and turn the lights off and the cops go past...the bloke turns the porch light on and asks what theyre doing...bob replies something like...'nothin ya gig!' and they reverse and take off.

Watched this tonight with my brother and a beer or ten. Classic movie. And plenty of Toranas making cameo appearances. Bankstown don't look like that anymore either haha.
