No idea mate. This is what the auto paint shop sold me. Sika would have applied a hell of a lot easier. This said it has a shelf life of 12 mths. The MFG date was July 2011. Thats what got me thinking it was faulty...?

Try letting the tube sit in the sun for a couple of hours.
Might make it easier to use.

Hi Brad,
Sorry it hasn't gone well - though likely finished now I reckon Derrin's idea is a bloody good one.
Genuine question arising; given the lengths you are going re: an original resto - why use a caulking gun sealer as opposed to the brush on stuff as peviously suggested for that OEM look?
Regardless, I hope it is turning out alright and you are happy with the result despite the difficulty in applying the stuff.
Cheers, TB

Yes tube sounds faulty.

Should be perhaps a touch thicker than windscreen sealant. A lot thicker than milk. Not as thick as dry cement.

Happens, i get brand new tubes of poly all the time that are #@$^%&.

Cheers.

Nice job on the engine bay.

You'll have it back on the road in no time.

Looks good what was the paint you used, looks like its sort of got a satin finish to it, bit glossier than matt.

Its a custom satin mix. They guys at the paint shop said they couldnt get 2 pac any flatter without the paint turning to shit? Something about something? Im not sure, I dont like paint.....! Its flatter then the satin that Ive been using on other parts of the suspension and what not.

Regardless Brad - it looks bloody good, but the most important question is; are you happy with it?

Still such a friggen long road ahead of me..... never ending the work on this bloody thing.

Thats half true.

Yes you can only add so much flattening base to a 2k. Adding flattening base to a gloss 2k wont get you quiet as dull as a satin, adding flattening base to a satin will get you a bit shinyer than a matt, etc, what they failed to tell you (probably cause it wasnt on the shelf) is that most paint companies make a matt black.....

That said i hate matt black engine bays, it looks good how it is.

Cheers.

Is GMH Satin Black really a Matt black????? Or is it flatter because it was an acrylic? They probably did have Matt Black in there but I went in specifically asking for GMH Satin Black. So went down the Satin road straight away I guess.

GMH Satin black would be a satin black i assume mate....I only mentioned Matts because you were bitching it wasnt dull enough :P

From what i have gathered GMH black varied a lot, they used to tip the left over color from the bodies at the end of the day in the big vat of black........

Cheers.

Engine bay and engine look spot on! I love the paint finish. It shouldn't be too hard to keep looking clean.

Nice work brad, might appear a little more glossy due to the 2pac finish but still a good result.

Nothing really major to show at this point... been doing stuff, but its just dumb small stuff like fitting all the pedals, fitted the heater box assy and blower motor. Might look at fitting the wiring loom back in soon, once thats in, I can pretty much put the dash back together.

Got the brake booster/MC and prop valve in getting overhauled, also getting new hard/soft brake lines made up. Want to put all the brakes in before the engine goes in, just so I have more room when fitting that stuff up.

Ill be 2 pac'ing the booster shells and master cyl this weekend. Got new hard lines made up. The M/C has been re-sleaved also.

Have fitted all the wiring harness back in, fitted a new glovebox in (thats a tricky job), so nearly ready to fit all the dash back in I guess.

Im going to fit all the brakes up before I fit the motor.

Got a heap of bits from MILTON PERFORMANCE, pretty stoked!!
