brad
i think your rocker covers may be off a hj full size holden
not LH torana as the oil filler appears to be on the drivers side
all other v8 torana's i've seen have the filler cap at the front
passenger side
refer amcs sold 1, 9 etc
i know your fussy,
love those new bit's
just something i noticed

Yep. Was fully aware of that mate... Unfortunately I just couldnt find a set to use.. Saw some on eBay but of course, selling for silly money... I wanted to get the engine painted and just had no choice... Maybe one day down the track a correct set will pop up. But until then... these will unfortunately have to do....

I think I saw a pair go for like $200 or something, and they were in beaten up condition.... I got these for free at the time, and were in good shape. But yeah your right the oil filler should be on the front passenger side. And these should have the tags for the wiring on the drivers side inner part of the rocker.

Hey Brad this car is looking awsome really impressed with your attention to detail i reckon you need to get some of them orignal rockers not because i am picky but after seeing the lengths you have gone too to get every detail spot on factory and checking for correct original setups and replicating them down to the autochoke tubes you owe it to yourself.

The first time you "show" this car people will be in awe but picky "enthusiast types" will all be questioning your intelligence constantly with

"did you know that those rocker covers aren't original they're off a HQ?" and uttering s@#! under there breaths as they walk off beating their chests about how they picked it as not-original.

This is only my thoughts after seeing peoples reactions to the injected setup in my hatch but i love telling them i have all the original matching number running gear is tucked away in the shed.

Again i love the way you have gone about build and can truely relate to the mate's kids not respecting the cars on your footy night .I have "physically" removed one of my mates kids from my shed after he continued to wipe hands over my car after 2 warnings about how important it was to not touch.

Good luck with the rest of the build.

Hahahahahah, cheers mate! If I could find a set at a realistic price Id snap em up. Ive got the paint code for HK Rocket Red so its no dramas to spray a set. I would really need to get a set before I put the motor in, looks like it would be a PITA to change em with the choke pipes n stuff in the way once in the car?

Im not sure if I would "show" this car, its not really show quality. And I did the "show" scene with my other car and it started to drain me a little. But yeah I totally understand what your getting at. I guess the rocker covers are an obvious mistake to the trained eye, but Im sure someone will always pick something wrong on any car that tries to be original. I never set out to go full concours, just back to the way it should be as best I could,

Yeah... friggen mungral kids. Why are there hands oily/greasy 100% of the time?

That does appear to be what Im looking for Col. Have they been fitted to a boat anchor? Not sure how much of those would be left once they had a sandblast? Might be quite pitted? Or are the photos not doing them any justice?

Bugger it....

Well if I can't find a set, the incorrect ones will have to do... Maybe one day in the future the right ones will pop up. You know, where does it end in trying to get things spot on...

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... Like 7 nights a week working till pretty much midnight... I just wish I could throw in the towel and be happy to walk away, sit back n give it a rest for a few months... But I just cant stand the thought of unfinished tasks that need doing. Its been 12mths now... I was expecting to be further along than this....

Did a dummy up of the dash this arv. Question... would I be better off fitting the steering colum before OR after the engine goes in?

I would have thought afterwards as it would be easier to align the colum with the steering shaft, rather then trying to align the K-frame into the body along with the colum onto the steering shaft???

Appreciate anyones comments.

Put the column in after the engine. One less thing to line up.

Just noticed you have factory aircon air vents. Did it have aircon originally?
