Was either a prosthetic eye or they just pull it out and sew the eyelids shut... That just seemed wrong... A heck of a lot cheaper though!

I did mine on the grass last time and they were powder coated. Used a big screw driver put one foot on the hinge clipped one end of the spring on the other dug the screw driver into the ground and levered the other end of the spring over using the ground lol worked a treat.

Ha!!! I reckon the ground is to soft up here for that! I'll give it a shot though, I've got a big mungral screw driver I could use.

brad i did mine with hinges in the bonnet open position
clip one end on and used a smallish philips through the
hook of the spring and through the retaining slot
may use a touch of paper so you don't chip them
in this position the spring does not have to be
stretched far at all

From what I've been able to work out.... And my uneducated use of the Internet. Early LHs had that ochre colour but later LHs had the same colour as the LXs....?

I wonder what year LX was introduced? Mine being 10/75 must be towards the end of LH? I've got a canister.

just had a quick look they seem to be all black, no sure if they have been painted before but i tried sanding it back a little and they may have traces of light grey or white under the black... the look almost bare metal inside.. hope that helps.

Another thing to note in datto's pic above is the ID tag, the rivots on that plate look to me like factory rivots. I think you were asking about how the factory rivots were supposed to look like in another thread brad? getting back to the bonnet springs though, i always thought they were that cacky yellow ocre color pictured above from the factory.

So did any LH or LX or UC Torana ever have grey bonnet springs? Or have I been given a bump steer?

i think your heading down the right path asking brad
but you must decide what,s right for you
info has been offered as to early LH being yellow ocre
my LX when i got it in 1985 and pretty original at that
stage had grey springs
i used a rubberised paint from a model shop
so that it stretches without cracking
does me !!!
cheers davemc
if in dought amcs sold section
