So did any LH or LX or UC Torana ever have grey bonnet springs? Or have I been given a bump steer?

Not sure about UC, but yes the LX got the grey springs with zinc plated hinges. Im not sure if the 75 LH went with the grey spring because ive never actually had the good luck to lay eyes on an original 75 model SL/R

Get them powdercoated maroon??

Fücking maroon powdercoat. Fück me. Fück. I stripped the black paint off em to find maroon powdercoat in the first place...

Yep I'm pretty happy to agree that the early LHs were yellow ochre. I'm just gunna be my own expert in my own little expert world and say later LHs were grey!

Nice work. Good to see it progressing.

That first picture scares me on so many levels though.

Just an observation. shouldn't the front door hinge bolts be black? Never too late I know.

Yeah I know... getting under a raised car is so dicey... I never work on a car without car stands. But in this case... I simply had no choice. Ive been waiting for a comment about that pic.

Shit... I only just replaced those bolts as the other ones were stainless.. Where am I gunna get black bolts from? Yeah Im just a young fella mate.

Anton would you believe these are the scuff plates that were blasted.... They were powder coated maroon of course. I blasted them, had em zinc'd came back crap, had em cad plated, came back crap.... Sent em away to Albury Electroplaters, come back looking fücking AWESOME!!! So yeah I dunno ay???

Hope no one ever checks under my dizzy cap... Cause it ain't original anymore......

Bonnet hinges came up really nice. Springs went on easy in the open position. I'm pretty happy to go with grey springs.

Should the finger cutter fan stick out so far? Not much room for radiator....

Brad, if you are fitting an original 2 core radiator then there is no issue as this is how they came from factory. However, if you are fitting a HQ style radiator, then you may have an issue as the fan will be closer to the radiator core than the std Torana radiator. The HQ style radiator sit further back (towards the engine) than the original 2 core radiator.

The question that needs to be asked is, what is the required distance between the inner edge of core and outer edge of blades for the most effectiveness of cooling. You may find, that you may need to replace the std spacer that you already have. If you do find out I will be interested to know. Cheers John

Cheers for the input guys.

Ive still got to chase up a radiator. Im not sure any of the shops round here would be interested in helping. They just want to the money.

Is it possible for them to take a brand new 2 core HQ radiator and undo the mounting strip, trim the sides and then mount it so the radiator sits in the correct position?

I reckon they wont be keen to do that it if it is....

I note with interest the Pertronix ignition. Can you tell me a bit more about it eg; ease of installation, anything else that needed changing, which model did you buy ( l or ll ) and price. I'm considering changing to electronic ignition but have not heard of Pertronix before.

I've driven right past Petronix a bunch of times, it's out near where a big swap meet is in Pomona out here :D (I used one in before in a car I worked on...super easy and good piece to keep the car looking stock as well)

Oh, and is a 6 cyl radiator the same ? I've got one around out of the old 202 powered white hatch I had. I had the original V8 one out of my car too I thought when I went to an aluminum one, but I looked around the other day and can't find it.

Hi Steve,

Ive run a Pertronix in my other car for years, to suit a Lucas dizzy.

This one is here:

http://www.ebay.com/...RS:1123&vxp=mtr

To suit Aussie Bosch Holden V8 dizzys.

Fitment is: One screw secures the base mounting plate, a dowel locates the other end. Two nuts secure the pickup module to the base mounting plate. The magnet is slipped onto the dizzy shaft. Red wire to + of coil, black wire to - of coil. Never change points again........ Cant get any easier really......

I believe the mounting arrangement is exactly the same mate... but the hose outlet is different?

If you can get some pics of the 6 cyl one that would be awesome! Or if you find the V8 one... post it over the ocean?
