hi there dood
if i was you i would look for some more parts, it will be cheaper than tryin to get the others cad plated, you want be happy with the finish it leaves, it goes black spottish after a while,, and mate you never sandblast anything you are getting zinc plated,,,.

cheers john gong

sound like a bit of a catch 22 :Headbang2: hope it gets sorted for you real soon. nothing worse than having to wait for something for extended times. i reckon in the 12 weeks you would have been able to rebuild it your self..

It doesn't look to good at all from the pics mate. I just had all that stuff chromed and it looks great. A bit of chrome is period look too I think. It may be your last option to get the finish you are after. Goodluck :)

mate if you had these parts sandblasted before you got them zinc plated,,, they will never look right, that why i said you need more parts the same and just send them in dirty, they will acid dip them then they will be fine.

the cad plating will turn black spotty after awhile.

cheers gong

Im so over this.... Its cost me $400 so far for this rubbish... I think Ill just get the scuff plates powder coated silver or something.... I hate dealing with electro platers..... My idea of a good job is obviously way off the mark compared to there's....

just a thought Hanra

have you thought of doing your own plating ??

couple of mates who are doing old m/bikes have bought their own kit

you can get zinc or nickel kits.

i have seen the results and they do a great job

try googleing JANE PLATING KITS then ring the guy and have a chat ,apparently very helpful fellow

as you say u dont have much choice being where u are

That looks very ordinary, I would be asking for a refund. I had some cad plating done here in Canberra a little while ago and it was so shinny I had to dull it a bit with polish because it looked like fake chrome, the polish gave it that buffed aluminium look.

Don't feel so bad Hanra, they are small things. The bigger picture still looks fantastic in my opinion.
I am in the same boat with another project, one step forward, 3 steps back.

Im trying to get a resolution out of the company involved..... but its not looking good... See below

All the holden enthusiast in my area use the cad finish and are always very happy with the finish.
I think if you could see the ones from the factory back in 1975 I don't believe they would be any better then the ones you got back

I agree with Gong on sandblasting these parts before plating, media blasting leaves the surface with a rough texture that kind of feels like coarse sandpaper so any chemical plating will mirror that finish. All i did with my parts before sending them to be plated was to degrease them, i did however pick the best condition parts i had to send away though. I do sympathise with you on the finish of your scuff plates, it is pretty poor. I don't think surface prep is to blame there & i wouldn't accept that quality either. I had a similar issue with the brake lines i had plated but to the plater's credit, he did re-do them with no fuss or charge. Hope you get a satisfactory resolution to the problem.

Im thinking perhaps I should try to replace these parts and get them all re-plated.... what an expensive exercise...

Id also agree with the sandblasting before the coating... if they were blasted they would have to be sanded and polished to a near mirror finish before they were coated.

Like im sure most others do they put it in some sort of acid tank (I donno whats actually in there) and it strips all the paint/grease/oil without damaging the surface... except when I unknowingly gave him some diecast parts but luckily he was experianced enough to know and pulled them out before they were eaten

Interesting Hanra, I see why you wanted the decal measurements now. With the rear spoiler, works best if you put the bulk of the lettering, excludes the '/' which goes a bit higher, 1cm below the ridge line on the rear spoiler (noting that you will have no other colour on it).
