Not this week mate, have hurt my back and it's really slowed the movement up!

Natures reminder that you are not 18 and bullet proof anymore. Cold weather freezes my knees which you need allot when working on cars.

With regards to the front spoiler ground affects panel, you should have a look at the one someone put on mine next time you are over this way. It is such a great piece of work that I could not bring myself to go back to the original vulnerable setup. It swallows rabbits and sends them to the brake rotors to be sliced up, carves wombats in half in one deft move and has been know to menace the odd Hyundai's. It fears no furry animal.

P.S. Thanks for the chassis bushes, they look great.

No worries Darky, hope you get to use them.
Will have to have a look for sure, all creatures should fear the ferocity of a Torana with a front splitter.
Watch out skippy........

That's the kit I'm looking at running Col.

That looks to be a nice bit of gear. Nothing worse than climbing under the car when its red hot and making tuning adjustments. Seeing that it can run on cable might even be able to throw it next to the cockpit sway bar adjusters next to the seat. Could be ok for for my needs.

I don't have to obey or listen to mother. :innocent:

I prefer the build rules on cars like the Peugeot 208 T16

you should have a look at the one someone put on mine

Do you have a photo?

Do you have a photo?

I did have but a computer crash killed them. I am sure this design would not be to any real advantage like the 125 mm extended ones you speak of.

Next time I run it up on ramps and I remember I will send you a picture.

The Superlites came in today. They look tough as nails. Can't wait till I get them under the car.

I am so stoked, things going well. If only my back gets a bit better, I will get to do a bit more panel work.

Hope you like.....

I picked up the lower trailing arm bushes from Datto the other day, thanks mate. Still have to get you the measurements for the custom ones I need for the Chassis rail/ Sub Frame.

Today I picked up the front rotor hats from a mate, OzyOzy. His mate at HighSpeed Engineering knocked them up for a group of people organized by OzyOzy. A bit of work went into the design by them, and they turned out really well. Really happy with what I got.

Will put them on tomorrow for a look.......

Pretty sweet looking...

How come custom ones versus off the shelf hats ?   (just out of curiosity, since they seem to come in lots of offsets, etc)

A multi piece rotor setup like that would be a good way to go, I had thought about it too...my front rotors are quite heavy, around 27 ? 30 pounds? each or so from memory.  :o  (but price was right at only like $160 each from Mercedes...they do a multi piece version also though, or aftermarket option of course too in my case that is)

Hi Jeff, I went the custom ones as OzyOzy has put a huge amount of work into getting them right and he is running the same rotor size and rims as I am. The only difference is the caliper he is running compared to me. So I went with his offer to get some made along with his.

Pretty sweet looking...

I got some feedback from Race Products today on the diff and how it is going. Very excited to see in the photos!!

How good is this going to be....

I have asked about the Torque Arm or 3rd Arm I want to fabricate for the replacement of the top arms. I need to get some brackets welded onto the tube to mount something like in previous posts.

Now for the Rotor Hats...........................................................................................

I can personally confirm that HQ/ Chev does NOT fit Commodore stud pattern. AAARRRRGGGHHHH   Frustration.

Back in the beginning when OzyOzy first talked to me about the idea of getting some made he gave me all the drawings etc and we ran through all the stuff that was needed.

All is good but for the machinist didn't change the PCD from 120 to 120.7mm.......

All good, OzyOzy is picking them up on the weekend and chatting to him about getting them re-made.

I knocked out the studs on the hubs to see how all the other measurements were. All good. They will be a good bit of kit.

I only put one stud back in loose to hold it

Attached File  Rotor 01.JPG   145.63K   11 downloads

Attached File  Rotor 02.JPG   151.67K   9 downloads

Tight fit!!! It is perfect, biggest rotor I could stuff under a 16" rim

Attached File  Rotor 03.JPG   128.94K   9 downloads

The Caliper may need a bit of massaging right inside the rim but this has given me confidence it will all fit inside, no problem.

Attached File  Rotor 04.JPG   142.48K   10 downloads

All in all it is heading in the right direction, just need to get new hats made with the right PCD and it will be unreal.

This build and thread is awesome. Yep the HQ/commo don't mix - thankfully :)

That jig for the diff is brilliant.

Most factory discs are centred on the hub and a loose fit over the studs. If the hat is a snug fit on the hub then the studs don't need to be a tight fit in the holes and the problem could be resolved by enlarging the holes for the studs.

The problem should be resolved by the machinist manufacturing new hats to the correct dimensions!

Not by masking a mistake with a "soft" solution

Hats need to be remade - no question about it

Suspension and Diff looks awesome mate...

RE: the last two posts... Andy is right in that most discs are a loose fit over the hub and the problem should be resolved by the machinist as full noise said... but there is only 0.7mm difference between HQ and Commodore so I think it would be acceptable for the machinist to just drill the holes slightly larger.

But at the end of the day if your getting a custom part made to certain specs and they were made outside of those specs you should have the right to have them re-made I guess

What I have done is ask for them to be re-made. They are brand new and not right. I hear what your saying Clint, it's only 0.7mm, but its enough for it not to fit. As Andy said, most "factory" hubs are tight on the hub but loose on the studs, I am not building a road car. It's a race car and I don't plan to take chances.
In the end it's pretty simple I asked for 120.7 PCD and that's what I should expect.

Hi Daryl, the back is not to bad at the moment, hope to get back to the panel work next week. I can't complain much though, didn't know how long or how much you have had to deal with for years!! I certainly can't complain.
Cheers for the positive comment though, bit like you with your A9X, can't wait till its done. We're just a couple of taxi builders huh, LOL.......
