The parcel shelf was looked at this afternoon. I can't remember when I cut it out and sold it, it was that long ago.

I marked the cut out up to make I look neater.

Before.........

I got some Ally sheet out and made the panels n 2 parts. Took my time in getting the shape round the wheel tubs right.

I am using nutsers to hold it all in place. I have only done the bottom row so far.

Finished the parcel shelf this afternoon. Looks a bit like a battle tank with all the bolts heads!!!

A suggestion was made that dome heads may look better......... think that may be the case.

It's nice to see the hole filled. Slowly slowly....

I am planning to get the paint gun out tomorrow and prime the front guards, nose cone, boot lid and drivers door.

Spent a bit of time cleaning them up ready.

So why did you cut the parcel shelf out just to make a similar looking panel ?

I know the cars all caged up and stiff so its not going to effect the rigidity of it ... just curious as to why

A bloke on the forum bought it, can't remember who?? Anyway he was doing a resto and the parcel shelf that I had was uncut, as in the speaker holes were not punched out.

Welby told me in the beginning it would be worth something to someone, how right he was LOL.

It seemed like a good idea at the time, sold it for $150, not bad I thought.

The ally is heaps lighter as well which is a bonus. Got1UR1 dropped by today and in chatting about the car I reckon about 25m or so of cage tube has gone into it...... heavy!!!

Can you cut more out of the front guards? It will make them lighter and the flare covers it.

Hi Peter, The rules allow for up to 75mm of material radially from the edge of the wheel arch outwards to be removed for tyre clearance.

So the short answer is yes, there is more material I could remove from the front guards. I decided not to do that as I want to retain a bit strength  around the flare.

I haven't put a flare on before this experience, so I may realize I can take more out if I want.

Hey bud, probably a little too late but I noticed your roll cage is getting rusty, I understand you cannot paint the cage until it is inspected? But in the mean time we use this at work on our bare metal sheets to stop them surface rusting...

Can brush or wipe it on with a rag, after a few hours it dries and does not stay tacky... They say you can paint straight over it but we have not tested it yet, But it comes off with prepsol/thinners which we use to clean the panels before paint anyway.

That's not a bad option Clint. Nice one, thanks for the suggestion. It has been on my mind the surface rust on the cage.

I will post photos in a minute, I had a clean up of the inside of the car. I did a small part of the cage with a wire wheel and it came up really well and I was thinking "how long before it gets the surface rust back!!"

I will check the product out, and use it.

Today I had another go at painting. I sprayed the Primer Surfacer on the panels I cleaned up yesterday.

I found another use for the rotisserie stand, its a good stand to mount the doors on to paint them upright.

I also did a job today that I have been avoiding since starting this project. Cleaning out all the sealer black stuff along the joints.

I did all the foot wells and down the sides to the rear door. Prick of a job. Good to get it out the way, I had some time up my sleeve as the paint was drying.

I also wire wheeled a couple of cage bars to se how that would come up. It came up really well, I will use the stuff Clint suggested to keep it clean.

Heh fun job... not, least its done now.

What primer did you use on the panels?

Oh and not sure where you are but West coast paint supplies sell the SW2 in bassendean, likely others that sell the POR-15 range do also but that is where we get it.

I spent a couple of hours this morning on the cage and cleaning all the surface rust off. I had my lad with me, he wanted to help me. He ended up mucking round the shed while I was on the wire wheel.

I have a bit more to go but it's about 75% cleaned up. Looks heaps better already.

Continuing on with the fabrication. I am in the process of making new brackets for the dash to go back in. It's going to be pretty simple, crash pad, and the 3 parts to the upper console. I cut down the crash pad to fit in between the bars, cut out the passenger air outlet and mounted that above the steering bar as has the instrument part of the dash. I need to make a bracket to mount the glove box now.

Does anyone know who is the best company to use to refurbish the crash pad and seal in the cut ends?? It has a nasty crack in the top as most do.

Let me know who you think is the best to go to.

i had mine done not happy with it and it was not worth the money thats just my opinion

You could have bought a fibreglass one piece dash with incorporated crash pad from Alfa :)

Are you going to cut up that facia for extra gauges too ?

Looks good. Would have to cut the sides and lower dash off. Is the ash tray and glove box lid part of the panel, ie: are they separate moving parts or fixed as a part of the mould?? How much do they want for it??

All fixed

No heater vents , ashtray or glovebox

No idea... haven't priced it

But yes in your case you'd be cutting most of it up so probably not worth it

The fibreglass dash was $300 + GST at Alfa Fibreglass a couple of years ago.

Got the CAMS rep coming over to do log book stuff on Sunday if you want to drop by??

That could be a good idea with the plate. I fitted it up today to see how it would go and to get the fab of the brackets done.

I could get just instrument panel cut blank and fit it up and cut the holes later??
