Time to fit the sub frame with engine and gearbox fitted. I want to get the gearbox support made up.

Using the hoist is a massive help when doing this!! Just waiting for the comments from Welby........

As tight as the Jerico is, the width of it is to wide for the trans tunnel. I have marked the tunnel up to cut some more out of it.

I will try again tomorrow.

you can see how tight it is.

Took this just for fun, to see what the engine looked like in it's spot.

Race Products have got the diff ready to be powder coated All the brackets are welded on and I'm stoked with how it looks.

Should be about 2 weeks and it will be ready to ship over to me.

Got the engine all mounted up. Welby dropped over and it was good timing as he was able to help with the ratchet strap I am using to support the gearbox.

The engine sit right up on the firewall, so I got the set back right. The angle of the engine is more than I expected, it's putting a bit of pressure on the mount but I will be able to look at that later.

Attached File  01.JPG   132.43K   8 downloads

With the strap holding the gearbox I used the ratchet to get the height or the angle of the gearbox to where I wanted it.

The first idea for the support was to use flat plate and a bit of 50x25 RHS as shown in the picture.

Attached File  02.JPG   107.69K   6 downloads

Didn't like it at all, the RHS is way to low. I need it up higher cause the exhaust will go under it. This support will also be used to the mount top of the 3rd link.

I folded the flat plate and cut down the RHS and the result was better, much happier with that.

Attached File  03.JPG   117.83K   6 downloads

I used small cut sections of the RHS and some flat plate to fabricate the bracket to the gearbox.

Attached File  04.JPG   101.65K   6 downloads

Attached File  05.JPG   114.52K   6 downloads

From there I put a fire blanket over all the bit that I didn't want weld spatter to get into and tacked it all up.

Took it off and fully welded it on the bench.

Got1UR1 came over at that point and we had a good catch up. Good timing as well, needed time for the welds to cool!!!

After he left I have to take out the Warping the welding had set into the RHS.

All done and back in unpainted. Will do that later. I am planning to put a couple of gussets in the support for strength.

Just for fun I put a wheel on and a flare to get an idea of how it will look. I'm excited, with the paint scheme I'm going for it will look tough!!!

I spent today getting my head around the trans tunnel. The Jerico is pretty wide compare to a standard Torana box. You can see how much was need to be cu out for the linkages on the side.

Attached File  01.JPG   111.57K   5 downloads

I made a start by making a replacement out of light guage galv just to get an idea of how it would work. I had to spot weld in bits to fill gaps etc!!

It turned out pretty much as I had hoped.

Attached File  02.JPG   95.73K   8 downloads

Wit the zinc anneal I made a start with the basics. The galv one was the same at the beginning.

Attached File  03.JPG   106.03K   6 downloads

Lots of trimming, back and forth heaps of times taking little by little out till I was happy. Getting the rolled sections was the hardest to get right.

Attached File  04.JPG   104.34K   6 downloads

I have tacked it in place now. That is as far as I have gone today.

Tomorrow I will take the engine and gearbox out and begin to finish off the tunnel.

I am going to mark out the edges of the new tunnel on the car and cut the old one out.

After work today I snuck in another couple of hours. It's been really great to get some continuity in progress and the time to work on it. I am thoroughly enjoying it.

With the trans tunnel I made yesterday, I marked out the shape and removed it, dropped the engine, gearbox and sub frame out and took to the old tunnel with the grinder and cutting blade.

Quite a hole!!!!!

Attached File  02.JPG   122.69K   6 downloads

As you can see, I am shaping some of the original metal to suit the new tunnel.

This is as far as I got tonight. I will have another go tomorrow and I hope to get it all tacked back in.

Another afternoon spent on the trans tunnel. I have now welded it in and have the job of finishing off the gap at the rear and the underside.

I was planning to weld it in doing a lap joint but was not happy at all with how it was going. So I marked up the sides and cut them down and I went with a butt joint along the sides and a lap joint at the top of the tunnel.

I tacked it all together and the top of tunnel looked like this underneath.

Attached File  01.JPG   96.9K   7 downloads

I used the oxy like I did the wheel arch and heated it up and hammered over the edge. Came up really well.

Attached File  02.JPG   110.84K   5 downloads

Here it is all welded up. Prick of a spot to be welding!!! Burnt my arm a few times through the welding jacket.

Attached File  03.JPG   117.91K   5 downloads

Filling all the gaps and stuff underneath now, tomorrow the rear gap inside the car.
