I had a side project running side by side with my car this arvo, Got1UR1 came over and we made a trolley up for a very special project. The restoration of a HDT A9X Promo car is nearing the start of it's journey. The trolley is for that. Can't wait for that one to start, nah....... I can't wait for it to be finished, how cool is that car going to be!!
The trolley we made for it.

wheels ?
Some one mention wheels ??
I could do you a wheely good deal on the shiny round things.
But that would mean going back into the shed.
I'm not ready yet. Where's my therapist......
Wish i could weld, very inspiring stuff happens here abouts.

Only did half a day today, Bathurst is on. Missed out on working on it yesterday, work interrupted it.
I have been seam welding a few bits and pieces. I figure it's a good idea, can't hurt anyway. I have done the area's around the wheel arches including the spring and strut housings.
I also hit the front chassis rails in a couple of areas.

I also had time to remove the rusted out battery tray. As others have done, I drilled out the spot welds to do it.
I got it out in one bit and I will use it as a template to make the new one.

Getting closer to painting it. I had a CAMS logbook guy come round on Thursday night and have a look at it. He gave me the thumbs up, I feel a lot better about painting it now, knowing that he will not come along after it's all done and point out something to change!!
Enjoy Bathurst everyone...............

Wanna come round and fix my rusty battery tray too ?
I assume your not putting the battery back there
I think you can buy a replacement section to suit there without the battery tray stuff...so it looks like the other side

If I get this one right I could help??
Wasn't going to buy one, I have some zinc anneal sheet and I am going to make my own. It will be flat like the other side, and not a tray for the battery.
The battery will be inside the car.

For all the size and bulk of the torrie Kframe it is very very weak. This is even more prevelant under race stress. The Kframe is basically trying to hold the front end together, but the chassis (a little folded tin plate) has the strength of a tin can of spaghetti. This is why the group c race cars plated the bottom of the Kframe with 3mm plate between the bottom arm mounts.
To gain some rigidity without changing the factory design I have in the past made 4x full profile chassis plates (3mm) that go from radiator support panel to past the gearbox mount and fully welded them in.
These photo's are similar (abit shorter) to what I used to do to help get the car to stop flexing.under hard driving. This along with plating the bottom of the Kframe helps a lot with the flex issues along with a well designed cage.

i made the same things for my big boy im building,,, to give the car more strength and will look better once painted.

I hope the bars I put in at the front and the solid bushes will make a difference on the track.

interesting point of discussion for a weight vs rigidity debate.
i must admit, it would go a long way to assisting front mounted sway bars, which i dislike greatly.
