My thoughts have been, if it weighs a bit more, then get more horsepower!
And more of both will truly stuff the small tyres used in IP.

I got another 2 hours on the car after work today.
I straightened out the battery tray that I got out on Saturday and used that to mark out a new one.

Cut it out and folded along the lines.

I got the replacement part for the battery tray welded in, had to get he cup head bolt hole drilled in and filed square, line it all up and weld it in through the holes where the spot welds were.

I bought this Permatex stuff from Supercrap Auto, it's to fix the cracks in the dash pad. They are pretty bad.

Anyone used it before???
I cleaned up the area and trimmed it back. I poured this stuff into it, it's a bit like araldite in the way it went on.
Let's see what it looks like tomorrow. The instructions say I will have to sand it back and do a top coat.

Other than the work on the dash pad, I will be cleaning up the chassis of the car over the next few days to primer paint it on Saturday.

I have a couple of dash tops if you need them mate

Christ almighty don't make it too pretty you know its going to get scratched. (LOL)

Cheers mate, depending on how this turns out I may need to ask that question.

Was wondering when you would pop up again!!
Yeah, the plan is not to go to far with it. With the dash, my mate who is doing the Monaro has had the dash in that sprayed with some cool stuff in black. Apparently it's what the rally boys use to cut down glare.
I don't think glare off the dash will be an issue with a Torana but it looks really cool and might be a way to seal the ends that I cut off on the dash pad.

i have some more ally if you need it, just give me a size
Posted 15 October 2013 - 10:37 PM
Yeah that would be great, any of the bigger sizes would be brilliant.

Cheers 76, it will be worth it then.
To be honest, the sun hasn't shone much in Perth over the winter and past it. I can't remember if glare was an issue last summer?? Winter has gone on forever!!!!
Actually I've noticed it with mine quite a bit recently and its been quite some time since I last Armorall'd the dash, so I think it would be well worth addressing in a race car

the last few days I have been cleaning the car down to paint it in Primer Surfacer. Not much to report on cleaning!!!
I painted it today and even with some of the painting I have done earlier on the doors etc, I still have a bit to learn.
I wasn't real happy, I think I had the suction on the paint up to high and to much paint out the gun. I did 6 mixes of the paint pot!!! Seems a lot??
I got a few nasty runs and a cracker of drip!!! I passed the gun over an roll bar accidently and got a massive spray of paint on it, didn't take to long for it to run then drip!!! Dripped onto my nicely painted trans tunnel.
Oh well, more learnt from this experience.
Here it is prior to painting.

A couple of shots during the painting. I took these while the 2 pack was curing in the paint gun pot.

How do you paint guru's fit the gun into tight areas?? I had trouble with getting the tops of the bars against the roof done properly.
Also had trouble getting in behind the dash. Any ideas???

shiny car mate !

Cut the paint pot down altho sounds like your using a suction feed gun? so makes it abit more complicated, we have a gravity feed gun which has a pot where the lid just slips inside the pot nicely (not threaded) so we cut the pot down and use it for tighter spots, A air line swivel on the end of the gun helps too
You can also get smaller guns.

Cheers Mark. Will be even better when it in white. You know they call this colour Grey-Green. I guess they couldn't decide what it was closer to......grey or green???
shiny car mate !
Hi Clint, Yeah I'm using a suction pot spray gun. I think a little less paint out the gun when I pull the trigger might help me.

Don't forget to use a thread cleaning tap before you start bolting hinges etc back on. Will make the task a lot easier.

I haven't approached the build with saving weight in mind. Maybe I should?
Stating the bleeding obvious. LOL
Being a racecar are you seriously going to be lugging around all those extra doors???
Or you thinking about doing school run's for some cash?
It's looking good. Don't complain about a drip (run or three) as it could be far worse ........ I could be in control of the spray gun and your torrie would soon be more like a boat (swimming in paint) LOL

This week has not been wasted.....just haven't got any pics to share till today. I have been on the wire wheel cleaning parts and getting them ready to prime them. I guess many of you don't need to see wire wheeled parts!!!
Race Products have got the diff finished and they email a couple of pics for me and damn..... I am so looking forward to getting it!!! It is going to be shit hot.
If any of you want a diff made, talk to Mark at Race Products and you won't regret it.

I plan to prime the parts I am wire wheeling this weekend on Saturday. Sunday I have got a club car cruise, getting the L34 out for a run, weather looks good.

Diff looks sick.
Re the paint, yes you have to much fluid. Depending on yoru tip size and how much thinner your running, a general starting point is 2 1/2 turns out from fully in.
As far as tight areas with a pot type gun, rip the pot off, get a fitting to screw on where the pot goes from the paint shop with a bit of line, and run the line to the pot remotely, hold one in each hand....Its a talent but its worth learning
Cheers.

diff looks fully shick mate.
can't wait to see that baby here.
Posted 24 October 2013 - 11:18 PM
Wow that diff looks tuff... Dont forget to run the orbital over the parts you have wire wheeled with around 60 grit... The wire wheel will polish the metal too much and depending on the primer it wont stick too well.
