Been a while again, seem to have those moments of nothing!! A trip to Bali with the family didn't help progress....

I got to painting some parts in Heron White tonight after work. And I re-primed the roof and other parts of the chassis.

Some bits I'm really happy with but the white paint has shown up a couple of spots that are bad enough that I want to fix it.

Packed up, and all parts back inside.

I had a bit of white paint left over in the spray pot and it went on the rear of the car. One side was good (this side) the other side showed up a bad spot.

Hope to get a bit more done on Thursday?? Will the wife let me???

Masked the car and doors up to paint the interior colour tonight. What a prick of a job!! Took ages to do all the door jams.

Job done though, already to go.

Well the grey paint on in a good way in the end.

Suction pot painting and Pressure pot painting require wildly different adjustments on the spray gun, and I mean a massive difference.

The white paint I did the other day with the suction pot had the air about 3 full turns out and the paint wide open and the paint went on really well.

Today with the pressure pot I thought that seeing as the white went on so well I will leave the gun setting alone.

What happened was that a shit load of paint and air came out and made a bit of a mess!!!!

Turned the air  and paint right down on the gun and it sent on heaps better.

To give you an idea, 1/2 of the inside of the car took about 1 litre of paint (taking into account t adjustment usage)

I only had 2 litres of paint and the second litre painted the second 1/2 of the inside, the boot space, door jams, all 4 doors, and the parcel shelf sheets. All with some left over to give them another coat!!

Way to learn Craig........ got it in the end.

Thanks Gene, I hope it's safe enough! All good having fun in a car till it goes pear shaped. Plenty of bars in there to keep me safe.

Can't mention the weight of it though as LXSS350 will be on to me about less weight more faster. More bars, more safer is my motto.

Glad you like the colour Jeff, That first go I thought f#$k, this is gonna be hard work. But once I got the gun sorted it was ok.

Painting in and around the bars was the hardest part. Looking for missed spots was also time consuming.

Cheers Wayne, Looking forward to catching up in a few weeks. Maybe a catch up with Darky as well??

Took all the masking off, really happy with how well it went. Good thing it will be dark inside, few wicked paint runs from when the spray gun was in overdrive, 1st attempt.

Attached File  50.JPG   114.84K   4 downloads

This week will see the car masked up again to protect the inside while I paint the white on the outside.

Looking good. Although fast is best  ....... for me watching tragic events like Brock and Senna means safety overrides my less weight more faster. It does no one any good being dead and even the fun of racing isn't worth that cost. That's why I can never understand the rational of building a death trap. Its been proven when watching so many big race prangs that a well designed roll cage can save your life.

One thing .... doing a full rebuild on a race car or street car certainly tests ones patience .... because it takes a ludicrous amount of hours to complete even not being built to show quality.

Masked the car up to paint the outside this arvo after work. Hope to paint it tomorrow if all goes well.

So if I get to that I will be painting the door hinges and flares as well.

I have a bit of work to do on the bonnet and boot lid, they will have to be painted again sometime later.

Hey Darren, thanks mate. The thing progressing at least. The next 2-3 weeks will slow up with a trip to Phillip Island for the historics.

I painted it white this afternoon. I have to say that I'm not really happy with the result.

I mixed the paint up 2 parts paint to 1 part hardener with no thinner. The result was it paint as well.

This was also the second go with the pressure pot style of painting. I don't like it yet, need more practice in setting it up.

At one point it shot paint out in what I can only describe as rain!! Then the next pull of the trigger was perfect, go figure. This happened on the drivers side rear quarter.

I will rub it all down and paint it again but this time with some thinners in the mix and with the suction pot.

It's not a real Torana.

It's a very clever facsimile made from chicken wire and off cuts of ducting sheet.

The roll cage is made from the poly pipe that they wrap the insulation around for delivery.

The reason he's having trouble with the paint is its not sticking to the zinc finish on the sheet.

And by the by, these wheels are going to cause you trouble at scrutineering

Thanks Clint, I'm sure you and the lads at Reaper Customs would have had it looking better than what I have done but I have enjoyed getting it done bit by bit and learned a bit along the way.
Funny you noticed the work drawing I used to mask it up. Always keep recycle in mind.

This afternoon was spent with a great bunch of people. Arrimar from Brisbane is over in Perth for work and I picked him up from town in the yellow one. Also A9X and Got1UR1 plus partners, came up for a BBQ lunch. It was a really relaxing afternoon just chatting and having a few laughs. Thanks lads for a great afternoon, thoroughly enjoyed it.

I thinks the girls were over the Torana talk early on!!
