Which direction is the flow? If it's little end to big end I wouldn't be surprised if it acted like a megaphone!
Does the exhaust have to go over the diff or are you dumping it out the (or each) side?

Side exit both sides,
Was talking to a mate and that why I am looking at the megaphone muffler.
I can go up to 95dba on the track.

Give some thought to where the flanges end up Craig. PITA when they get caught up on the trailer loading and unloading.

Looks like I am heading in the right direction. Took these photos directly from that thread.

I wouldn't use v-bands in an exhaust (they're originally for dairy and brewery tubes)
I think your confusing v-bands with Tri clover fittings! Tri clover use a neoprene (& other types) of gasket between the flanges & are retained by a raised rib in either side of the gasket! Common to dairy & brewing!
V bands don't have gaskets & are common on most larger turbo exhaust housing outlets! Look at any truck & you will see them

Looks the goods. We were just advised to through a hot-dog muffler in behind where the two extractors collect.

Really, well there you go. They looked just like Tri clovers to me. Doing them up when misaligned is a pain.
Yep both do not forgive misalignment!
But totally different uses!
Id be going for the 2 or 3 bolt flange over a v-band anyday on an exhaust system (other than the turbo connection) as they are more forgiving when bolting up!
Anyway Eyepeeler! Awesome job on the car!

hi eyepeeler, just a quick question, how does it muffle anything if the exhaust gas doesn't actually pass thru anything or does it? the pic appears to show it go in n out the same path or is that the way its supposed to?

I dont believe its supposed to muffle to much...
Will make it a bit quieter.

how? just resinating around the small holes? looks like a straight thru, though I wouldn't know the 1st thing about these things but just curious.

Pretty much yeah.
Lots of mufflers are set up like that.

More a resonator than a muffler i suppose.

I always wondered that myself.
Until I worked on a V16 Cat generator. Actually about 100 of them.
The module boxes they were in had perforated metal covering glass insulation on the inside.
If you walked close to the perforated wall it felt like you were deaf in the ear closest to the wall.
The wall seemed to absorb all sound.
The inlet tract for air circulation was open and very little noise penetrated outside.

Hey Greg,
Bomber is right, the muffler won't muffle that much, but it will do a little. In the area I work in, HVAC, we use sound attenuators on large industrial fans like the one below.

They take the sound out as the air passes through them. I have no idea on the science of how that happens, but it does work.
I have got zero science in the build of my muffler other than the principle of what we use at work and the megaphone design of the Group C cars. I can go to 95DB in noise levels, hope it works to that level??
I does look tough though, I like it. Even if I do say so myself, LOL.
