I couldn't agree more :driving:

Yep. I was actually laughing when i read it.. I haven't even looked since my last post.

I built my car as they were. The old mans car ran as they were in the top 1/3 of grids for 6+ yrs.
Never a race winner and never will be unless I change engine spec etc but even then not enough compared to Hislops Falcon.

That Falcon is a very good car!
Sorry guys.... I didn't mean to say the "F" word here :o

Anyway I've moved on.

This Torana on the other hand may shake them up a little. Looks like a potential race winner and hasn't even turned a wheel yet.... No pressure!

LOL Dave, yeah I hear Hislops Falcon and Cherrys Monaro and Starlet are pretty much the bench mark.

Thanks for the comment on my Torana, I hope it's there or there abouts.
Yeah no pressure there on the driver!! I hope to just have some fun learning to drive it.

Yes very good cars. I'd love to see their times on a slick tyre!

Personally I think there is way to much weight given to Gary's opinions on that forum.... People appear to be making decisions on whether they build a car based on comments made over there which I don't think is good for IP. Build your car to the best of your abilities and get out there and have some fun - My experience is that unless you are winning races by a large margin or have a clearly illegal modification, officials will pay little attention to your car apart from the usual safety scrut stuff.

my 2c of course!

Cheers Sam, for Twin Turbo I guess when you have Yoda as your avatar you must think your pretty wise, LOL.
I pretty much came to the same point as your comment, I'm going to finish building it. Sounds like a great idea, get out and have some fun.
I plan to cross enter in IP and Street Cars just to get as much track time as possible.

Very Funny, Very Funny.
The voice in the head makes it amusing, sorta just happens though.

If your familiar with Smokey and the Bandit, every time I read "Very Funny, Very Funny", I think of Jerry Reed aka The Snowman. Loading up the Coors Beer scene.

Just stumbled across this thread. Nice work mate. I'm in the process of putting together a hatchback for street car class. Getting there slowly but surely. Keep the inspiration coming mate.

Hey Marcus, thanks for having a look, I haven't posted up recently, only so much you can say on the headers. I have had the engine in and out a few times checking and working the headers for clearance. That should be done by Friday, can get them heat treated then.

Post up a picture of your Hatch build, would love to see it. What have you done so far?
I plan to enter street car as well as IP if the car passes IP scruiteneering.

Hmm. Where to start. I've gone for a McDonald Bros front end and I've also modified the rear end to a three link with a Watts link. Roll cage is all done, seam welded a few areas underneath, pedal box mounted, seat mounts done. Have yet to slip the motor (L98 injected) and gearbox in(TKO600). Just waiting on a few parts to arrive. a8748d8298651ab89182dd6fee837b1d.jpg

That's about it for the moment... Don't want to railroad your thread mate. I should probably start a thread of my own...

+1 I'd love to see more Marcus, that suspension work looks interesting but I don't want to highjack Craig's thread.

Highjack away, that looks unreal. Nice build from the 3 photos you showed, would love to see some more.

Have you dry sumped your L98??

Did you do the fab work on the 3rd link yourself??

I see you did the front bars to the chassis rail the same way I did. How did you tie it in?? Same as the way I did it?

To many questions, LOL.

I have yet to dry sump the motor. I've sent various enquiries over to a few companies in the U.S. but none have replied as yet.

To be honest, I didn't see how you tied in to the front of yours but effectively it has a 3mm plate over the top of the mount holes with a piece of chromo tube down into the chassis hole that is capped at the bottom with a hole for the though bolts to the k-frame. Pretty simple. I didn't do the roll age myself. I had a mate do it. I figured I could have done it myself but I'd be there forever working it out and fabricating it. The guy that did it has done an outstanding job and knocked it over in about a week.

I did all the rear end myself, design wise that is. I did it all in CAD, then mocked it all up before laser cutting it, then tacked it all up... Then got my mate to weld it up. I'm an ok Tig & Mig welder but something's get done better by professionals in my opinion, so...

I had to do a pretty serious resto on the car before I could get into the cage etc. all the back end was rusted out30dada6ea666ced3e179b7eb8a4405a7.jpg check it out...

I have a bit more to do in the three link area to enclose the centre link then it's off to the blaster again to tidy up all the rust repairs.... Then motor, header fab, brake setup, battery mount.... Etc

Agreed with that, the cage you have looks really good, nice tig welds. I did mine with steel and mig.
I didn't plate around the chassis rail hole but did do the tube down to the bottom of the rail.
I am also using steel bushes to mount the sub frame.

Nice work on the cage, Craig. Its takes a fair bit of head scratching and patience to get a cage done I'd imagine. What does the rest of the 'to do' list look like from here?

Just out of interest, what do you guestimate the finished wet weigh to be?

Marcus

Hey Marcus, hard to tell in the photo but is that upper control arm mount also braced to the cage?

If not I'm just wondering if it's going to be strong enough, or is that why you're boxing it in?

It's not tied into the cage in those photos, but it will be once boxed in. I have yet to box it in to the rear, but here is a shot of it tied forward of the upper mount. a0c6c96ccd0213f392bc8be3586a9f2a.jpg
Once tied into the cage rearward it will be stronger than the lower mounts.

Yeah, the street car class has the rules that suit what I'm setting out to achieve with this car.
