Trans tunnel shapes & seal sealer density aside... if a race team or privateer ordered the a9x back in the day would the white LX pictured above be what they received?

I believe that torana was sold by Ecurie Bowden some time ago. They advertised it as a Group C GMP&A a9x.

There was a "blister patch" made available so the transmission tunnel could be cut and the patch welded in so a T10 gearbox could be fitted.

Dont know if this tunnel modification is one of these patches or someone has welded in one of their own.

Anyways if this car ever gets finished lol, I picture it as "what if" prototype kinda of car that could've been ordered from holden but with the 80s parts recaro / bbs / ap brakes etc.
& leave the race paints for the race cars , can leave that to the imagination :)
Mite see a couple of castrol stickers in the engine bay thats about it...

Pretty sure the blister patch was to convert a "normal" shell for the rear end.

My memory seems to think that the tunnel mod was left up to the teams.

But they would have made as small a patch as possible.

The race shell I had started its life in ultra blue paint.

A lot of GMP&A stuff would have likely been primer only, as it was a spare parts shell.

Not all GMP&A shells would have been for race use either.

It was a spare parts/replacement shell. Something which happens in all models from memory for extensive collision repairs.

Cheers

Rob

Ultra blue is great color.
Rob did you order it that color or was it a luck of what holden had in stock at the time?

It was very second hand by the time I got it.

It is the car in my profile avatar thingy.

I bought it the week after that as a bare shell.

Sold it a few years later.

One of those mistake moments.

Cheers

Once the original unit was removed, could almost mount the 52mm mechanical temp gauge there as well.

No oil leaks & a mate said its not blowing smoke,so I'm very happy.
Plan was to sit in the left lane & keep an eye on the water temp & oil pressure. Think the engine is run in now.
I hit the limiter a couple of times (5000rpm) the tacho needs to calibrated for v8.
Changed the plugs After the 1st session & went from a 5 to 6 in the heat range.
Timing is locked out @ 28
Can't wait to put the AP calipers on & get it tuned.

5’s are pretty hot🤔
If your doing high engine speed high loading, cylinder temps would be pretty hot.

I ran as cold as 8’s on mine(was doing alot of high lod high speed stuff), careful attention to mixtures at low and mid speeds(cruising speeds) helped with drivability.
