Was just curious about the height of my car and found out the std height for a lc gtr was 54.2"
this equates to 1376/7 mm
Even thou i have put in 25 mm spacers in the rear and 20mm in the front the height now is wait for it
You guessed it 1376mm.
So i know know that my springs are 1" lowered items.
the spaces i have fitted will not hurt the set up or the springs as they are made from 300+grade steel and i used m12 high tensile bolts and nylexs nuts to replace the ones i removed. so the bolts are larger diamiter and stronger then stock ones.
I did this as i wanted the same ride as i had before the rebuild as i was very happy with it before.
Only lifted it up to get tyre clearance more then anything as the tyres where hitting the front gaurds when turnng and the rear was bottoming out.

Started the car last night to test the speedo after hooking it up, while i was worming it up to take it out for a drive, the exhaust cam snapped the end clean off.
I expect that it now has bent valves dammaged head and pistons and needs new cams.
Engine was was on fast idle at 1500-2000rpm when it stopped all of a sudden with a lot of grinding noise.
oil pressure was on 40 psi before stopping.
Pulled the front of the engine apart and found the problem.
as that is where oil was leaking from after stopping.
As you will see in the photo's

Suppect that the front cut that the engine can out of had been hit hard in the front right on the cam gear.
It would explain why the engine came with out some of the caseing and no crank sencer.
found everdance of this when i pulled it apart to find out what had happened.
So on the hunt for a new engine now

Pull the head & check for damage, it could be less than you think.

- Yer spoke with an engine builder today and he said if i drop it off on Monday next week he will have it all done for x'mass.
- He said it would be bent valves and a new cam so should reco the head while it's off to make sure everything is a ok and wack in a set of new aftermarket cams will do the trick.
- as much as i would like to rebuild the engine to what i want rb30/25 spool rods forge pistons and stage 2 cams with port work,
- i can't afford it right now so i will just have to stick with std engine but still good for around the 350hp at the treads with the set up i'm running.
- Looking at 650 to reco the head 200 for valve springs 90 for timeing belt and 850 for cams.
- might offer him 2000 cash with port work done.?????? can only try

Hope it's not toooooo bad and just bent the valves,
so i will replace the cams with stage 1 cams as i can't afford to up grade the ecu atm, heavy duty valve springs to suit. reco the head and maybe some port work, see what the budget alows for.
Going to replace the sump and pick up while the engine is out and repaint the engine bay aswell.
Due to the fact that when i was haveing all the dramers with the brakes i split a metal line and didn't notice it and fried the paint on the drivers side iner gard.
so a busy week ahead of me with the car and an extra busy week ahead of me at work too (dam it).been doing 16 hour days this week to get the car done and all my work at work done too.
So tied atm.
well i will keep you all updated with all findings.

well it goes like this.
number 6 exhaust valves hit the piston just hard enough to leave a mark on the piston.
as you would expect they are bent and so is anouther 2
so all up 4 exhaust valves bent 2 inlet valves bent.
2 valve guides need to be replaced.
so all up to get the head recoed, replace the valves, new cams and springs. new timeing belt kit including idler pully and tenchener pully, small port work new head gasket and manifold gaskets and labour.
$2200 cash price.

Went to the engine builders this arvo.
He has ported the head and got the new cams in.
He said i should get about a 20-30% incress in power.
so i started with from factory 206kw uped the boost added a 3" exhaust and after market inter cooler good for around anouther 30kw
so this gives me around 236-240 kw
now with the new cams and port work good for around another 50kw
Giveing me around 290-300 kw
Now remember nissan rate their engines at the wheels not the flywheel like holden and ford do
So i should be able to put it on the dyno and turn out around a genuine 400 hp at the wheels
not bad for a 2.5lt 6 pot with a std bottom end.

Just need to set the tappets propley and away i go.
sounds alot tougher now with the bigger cams. can't wait till tuesday when the engine builder comes
over and sets the tappets propley as he had run short of time when he put the head on the other day.

Pulled the tappet cover off the exhaust cam and found that one of the buckets had jumped out on start up and that is what was causeing the noise.
has screwwed the bucket and chipped a small piece off the side of the loube, not enough to worrie about as it is right on the edge of the lobe, not in the centre where the cam hits the valve stem, so lucky.
have measured the lift on the lobe and comes in the same as all others. .618 thou lift.
i don't think it will hurt the cam as they are not hardend i don't think so anyway. if they are it will need to be replaced. but an easy fix as it can be done in the car at the engine builders expence NOT MINE

Not willing to drive it in the rain as it has more then enough grunt to light them up in the dry.

well i bolted the bonnet back on yesterday and started to finish the interia (just a few miner touch up) so all back on track now to have at the Australia day show at Rocklea (if not raining)
Not willing to drive it in the rain as it has more then enough grunt to light them up in the dry.
Not much point in driving them in the rain , if you don't have to, thats what the family hack is for ?
