Hi all

I need some help with painting acrylic. I have painted some part ok but tonight I painted my front gard Barbados green and clear over the top. My shed is not ventilated very well and it was only 12 degrees. The end result was a very smoky white, flat Barbados green.

Was this the cool air or something else ?

Will this buff out or not ?

Thanks

Sounds like the paint blushed, a result of the air temperature being to cold

12 degrees is way to cold to be painting without heat lamps or a booth

yeah now is not a good time unless you have a booth/shed
wait til it's around 20 and at the lowest humidity point of the day

You can get away with a lot with acrylic.... Try rubbing back one small section and buff it... See what happens...

Worse case you could rub back the whole car and blow another coat or two over the whole car...

Got any pics?

On my short tafe course we were told it will buff out when you color sand and polish, But I have never done it myself

Oh and if your forced to paint in cold temps you can use fast drying thinners so it drys before it gets a chance to flower (blush, whatever you wanna call it)

I had the same\similar issue a little while back. I laid on clear in the later arvo\evening and the result was a milky finish that I ended up rubbing back.

See this post Milky Paint

Hiya. If the paint has just "blushed" due to cold air, you can just spray retarder thinners straight over it and it will vanish before your eyes. Seriously. Just put some in the gun and give it a light spray.

The only issue is if the basecoat blushed before you cleared it. Retarder will only cure the top layer of paint.

Yes I have pics? But cannot upload. I am happy to email if someone will post for me.

I have not pained whole car with this problem, just LH front guard last night.

Had a look this morning and smoky white was not as bad but still very flat looking

Green is Dupont Lucite 400

Clear is Dupont 380s

Thinner is Duxone 1K multi acrylic thinner 8210080

I think I will rub back and paint again on a hotter day ?
Thanks

Yep.

Seeing though you have nothing to loose, give it a quick clean up with prepsol then hit it with strait thinners out of the gun, see if it makes a difference.

Guessing it was all to do with your temp though.

Cheers.

Back, sorry not very good at this computer thing but I will try to get some pics here ???

All pics are of paint strait off the gun.

The LH front guard with the noses cone is the pics with the problem.

Repainted it today and all is good. It was 18 degrees

Thanks

Parts of my car went milky when my car was resprayed, painted in acrylic

Sanded & buffed out, but i did not have clear over the top.
