what a great rust free car
Honestly couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic then sorry haha, there'es definately some rust in areas, like on the back tail theres a strip of it, the whole bullbar is rust, other than that it's pretty fine
The passenger door has a big dent in it that makes it so you can't even open it so we needa get that out and stripped down and repaint the whole car

and 13" wide hotwires are worth $$$$ on evil buy
more if they are 14 x 10;s

why dont you just chuck the hot wires on anyway and see how they look. take some pictures and chuck them up then you can get some advice on what you should do!
because dad doesn't have the tyres for them anymore D: don't ask me why haha

15" v's are a good choice...not too big to look out of place and plently more tyre choice than 13" 's
and 13" wide hotwires are worth $$$$ on evil buy
more if they are 14 x 10;s
ah sweet thanks for the advice i'll talk to dad about it tonight, it might be a good idea to keep them i think, just incase in a long time away, i may pass it on, or sell the torana (hopefully not!) and the person is looking for wider wheels for flares and wal-ah i'd still have them lying around

What a GEM you got there Olly, we have a couple of Hatch's in our family and they are an Aussie icon and are only going up in value. being a Mallee car it wont have the rust issues most Hatch's suffer from, we will be watching your progress!!
Hey thanks! Yeah CANNOT wait to make her look all glossy, I wanted to do the paint job myself but parents are a bit iffish about it but we'll see how it goes, at the moment we're looking at making our old brumbi into a bushbomb. Should be good fun!

Hey that's great to hear! paint won't be touching this car until she's 99% roadworthy worst case is probably the door dent that has prevented it to open for the front passenger D:
Anyone got a rough idea of how much that will cost? i'm guessing around 800-1200?

So I'm bringing this thread back from the dead. Thought I may aswell instead of just posting all my questions in separate threads
Long story short this project didn't last long when i was younger cos I started playing footy and then joined a band for a few years after that haha. But the lx is here up from our old house now so I can get more hands on more often with the help of a mate, the plans had never stopped
Basically what we've done so far is take the carby off for a good clean with carby cleaner, clean up the cloudy windows with metho, get a dent out of the passenger door aswell as getting it opened! (can thank my friend for that one) cleaned up the interior aswell as the engine bay, but it still needs something more.
Plans for the next few weeks are:
Replacing the alternator
Replacing the brake pads and bleeding
Replacing vacuum hoses to carby
Finding the leaks in the radiator or replacing that too.
I went to the wreckers and they didnt have any alternators for a 202 laying around so i'm looking on the internet for a new one i guess. Would this be okay? http://www.ebay.com....12d6bd13&_uhb=1

PM me a price if you want to sell it
That alternator will do the job fine but you shouldn't be spending $160 on an alt.
Someone on here will help you out for a 6pk of piss I reckon...

Thanks al and sorry but not happening Daz haha
Hmm we got quoted 230 for a new one in Mildura!
Small update: connected the passenger door latch cable to the latch which was a bitch to do, so now the passenger door is fully operational again for the first time in 24 years

Has anyone got any tips for getting off really built up dirt/dust on the inner part of the engine bay? I hit it with degreaser and that helped a lot of the other parts in the engine bay but not these main flat bits. I could try a brush but i don't think that or a pressure hose would do much :/

Small Update:
Thought i'd take some photos seeing as it's been a while and you can get a better idea of where i'm at. The flash really shows the uglies
Vacuumed the interior but still needs a wipedown on the dash and gearbox etc (those front seats are grotty but the back seats are in pretty good nic)
- Passenger door is now fully operational again. The dent wasn't preventing it from opening, there was just a lot of crap blocking the latch which my mate found and all that needed to be done was reattach the latch cable!
Front and back shots just cos
Worst rust i've found on the car yet
Wouldn't mind some tips on how to give this a better clean!
The windows have really cleared up a lot after hitting them with some metho. They were super cloudy beforehand.
The carby has been taken off and given a good clean with carby cleaner aswell as replaced the manifold gasket for it and done a $1.90 repair on the fuel line with the help from a mate of mine haha
I've hit a bit of a wall at the moment with the brakes because there's no fluid going to the rear drums. I've checked the prop valve and there's fluid coming in and out of it so it seems okay.
Thinking it's the brake lines then?
Thanks

that sorta dust/dirt/grime is extremely hard to clean up.
if it was me id drop the tailshaft
unbolt and disconnect the front end
with a soapy brush scrub every nook and cranny of the bay area.
put the motor on a stand replace gaskets, points, plugs, leads, pump etc...
clean paint engine, clean paint k frame.
get original carby rebuilt.
re assemble.
take some more pics and make us even more jealous.
cheers.
ps. ill join the I want buy it cue behind daz :-)

Well the motor in it at the moment is a reconditioned 202 that has less than 100,000kms on it so i'm not sure it'd need all that. But once I'm off my P's which is a few years away I'm wanting to put an ls1 in it so I'm thinking for now just getting it to a roadworthy level for now and maybe change the diff and brakes to discs, and then really tear it down for a full resto once I have the experience and money for a new engine.
Thanks

Hi Oliver
What a great starting point for a young bloke - it is nice to see a survivor
Personaly i would degrease the lot - underside, K frame, diff area and engine bay then hit it with a decent pressure cleaner
Make note of any area's you make think that could be leaking a bit of oil
Give it a birthday ... just wrap the stuff you dont want wet in plastic
It all seems to be there and once it has had its birthday you will be able to get to and see the things that may be wrong with it for it's roadworthy
IE bushes , ball joints etc
Take it for a decent spin if you can and let it all warm up and leak if it wants to - you can then see and fix
Repair / replace what you can see or know of that wont pass the roadworthy then run it over the pits
They will give you a list of repairs and you just start on that list
Good plan you have - get her back on the road and enjoy it
The paint doesnt look toooo bad so a buff there will bring it back up to something acceptable
Coat of satin black on the roobar just to touch it off

Hi Dave
Thanks man, I feel very lucky to be working on one to be honest
The engine bay has already had a couple of degreaser attempts, although not with a pressure washer, that's up at our old house.
After I deal with the brakes I can give the car a real proper clean or like you said a "birthday" haha
You've basically read my mind with those last couple of paragraphs, the plan is to repair and replace anything that sticks out obvious and then take it
to the mechanic to get a better look at it and have a list of things to tick off from there.
I was actually thinking of the bullbar last night and potentially keeping it if it fits in with a coat of black! Keeping the car safer from damage on the road while still looking tuff will be a big win
thanks
