What would be the better choice for an LH SL/R 5000? Both seem about the same in terms of price? Both are the same colour..... Could they both be made at the same place, just with different stickers???

Best choice is Koni or Bilstein if you have the $$$, Koni are cheaper of these two and seem to be what most recommend

yeah i love my koni's in my F#&D, there more expensive obviously but iv never had luck getting decent k's out of gas shocks so in the long run they are much better

I spent big bucks on SPAX in my other car, which to me now, looking back seems pointless. Im not after the expensive ones this time.

I used KYB in my vc commodore, had nothing but problems with them.

ultima are made in china and should be yellow in colour and are not a bad unit for the price, kyb's are made in japan and should be a matt black in colour.

I was told $58ea for KYB's and $59 for Ultima. This is for the Rear of my SL/R 5000. Im up in Cairns however so freight costs are always an issue....

Supercheap used to sell KYB's, I've always been taught not to let a Shock Absorber lay on its side for to long. Supercheap store them on there side maybe thats why i had so many problems with them.

A bloke I know who is in the club racing scene says that they all run KYB shocks because they are just as good as bilsteins and konis but are nowhere near the price. He says that bilsteins are just for people who like to brag brand names. I wouldn't have a clue myself, though......

^ Sounds like someone who is too tight to buy a decent shock trying to justify it to himself. One look at them and you can see how superb Bilsteins are.
I am running Konis and have for years - far better than any of the cheaper ones around and still reasonably priced.

good price on the kyb's.
yeah i wouldnt put kyb in the same boat as koni or bilstein, ones a slight upgrade from a standard shock while the others are a performance shock.

So are you saying you cant offer a similar price on the KYB's?
As Ive said previously, Ive got 15 pt Adjustable SPAX fitted to my other car. Im not really interested in spending big $$$ this time on flash shocks. So just after something basic.

I've never liked the ride of a KYB shock....(ditto for alot of other people I know)
I have Bilstien on the Torana, and as just a daily driver shock, I have always liked Monroes (they have few different lines of them)
I even use them in a heavy duty version on my crew can 2002 GMC truck and am really happy with them. (it's a street truck, not offroad or anything like that... but I do carry stuff in the bed alot and tow with it too)

Also running konis in the racecar.
Ask the fools running kybs if they have seen shock dyno reports, or seen the.difference in construction between cheap amd expensive shocks

just stick some monroes in it, but konis or bilstein would be the better option

Just remember that KYB and Bilstien operate on a different principle than Spax. Spax are low pressure gas and the others are high pressure gas. Fairly sure that Spax are standard fitment in BMW
( or were)
de Carbon are another brand if you can find then these days. They were very good in the mid 1980's but havent heard much about them in recent years.
For general road use I would stick with the adjustable Koni. Their strong point is they can be rebuilt at any time that they wear out into the future

i put the ebay ultima shocks in vp commo daily, they seem to be good for standard type of driving e.g:work ,local shop, wreckers, rarespares lol. but i will be putting pedders in my torry, and thats no bull.

Koni adjustables or Bilstein are the go. Neither are a cheap option though.

I have BOGE gas on the front of my torana for over 10 years now. They are top. Had BOGE rear oils (they didn't make gas ones for LH)and they were fine until the car got rear ended.Anyone ever heard of BOGE shocks?
What is the damage on them?
