Berro, haven't been on the forums for a while but pretty sure I have a T5 in my UC and no evidence of modifications to the tunnel. Will try to get some picks in the next day or two.

Yeah good point on the heater as it saves it leaking after. Thanks Burty but box is in ready for engine.

Not sure whether the UC heater box is the same as the LH ones. I can vouch that it's a prick of a job removing the heater box and putting it back in. I never want to do that job again.

Hi mate yeah it is a prick of a job. Getting underneath the dash to remove the heaterbox is the hardest part as I aint as flexible as I used to be. I found everytime I went under there cramps were getting the better of me. Even the cables were a pain especially the top one.

I've done the whole dash graft so its identical to LX now.

Hahaha... Im with you LHSL. We are all getting old. I love the fact that the missus is more flexable than me and she loves getting down and dirty. All i say is "hey dearrrr" and she comes a running with her car clothes on. She did bolt up my new brake booster with the seat still in the car mmm very flexable lol.

No chance of my misses getting her hands dirty, runs at the sight of a spider. I'd rather do the job myself anyway.

Hmm any difference with a VS V8 T5? Please let the cat out of the bag :) I have both EL 6cly T5 and VS V8 T5 gearboxs

The moment of truth.

Trying to fit the VN Commodore T5 Manual Gearbox............

After a long while wading through threads and social media comments... Hearing that it cant be done and you need the Ford T5 Box.

I can officially say the Commodore T5 gearbox fits perfectly the UC Torana with out modifying the tunnel or interfering with the mid tunnel strengthening rail. 20- 25mm of gap between the tunnel strengthening rail.

I will try and get more pics soon.

Engine should go in next week. Yay!

Ok here goes.......

Holden T5 will fit the tunnel ok (photo attached) but the tunnel needs to be cut through parts of chair strengthening plate and boxed out. (possible engineering required). This is due to shifter position being too far back.

The holden T5 box is approx 810mm long from bellhousing to shifter. (picture attached)

I was still using the commodore engine mounts and not HQ. (commodore left HQ right)

I was also still trying to use the commodore sump and oil pick up instead of HQ ! (yellow one is HQ, dumb me)

So back to the drawing board I bought a EA 6 cylinder manual box approx 797mm long (167mm imput shaft) with a dellows conversion belhousing. This brings the shifter forward. The EA box is the one to get as it has better ratios.

Also needed to get a different spigot bush as the centre hole needed to be larger.

And in she went. Happy man!

Headers are a bitch to fit!!! Had to remove starter motor and fit from below passager side. Drivers side jack one side of engine up remove engine mount and steering knuckle, also fit from below! Also heat painted them black.

Fitted CRS crossmember and this left lots of room for exhaust.

I also had to adjust the radiator down as it was sitting too high.

Shit hot! Looking good Berro. Anything else you needed to do to the EA T5 box? Are the splines on the input shaft same as an Aussie?

So you need to run a different clutch friction plate?

Yes
Ford clutch plate
Holden pressure plate
Mine is the current setup. Give CRS a call they can give you the size of both

Thanks.

Very happy.

Got a quote on shortening Commy 2 peice the tail shaft today from final drive in perth.

They said that its best to sleve it and turn it into a single piece so you dont need to mount the centre bearings sections. Any one used a 2 peice and if so where did you mount it? I've heard you get more fliexibility with the gearbox to tailshaft angles.

UC's have a mount built into the chassis for 2pce tailshafts don't they?

Check 76lxhatch's build 'SS hatch' on page 2 as he's done this on his hatchback from memory

2 peice shafts are mainly to give more ground clearance!
Single peice is obviously cheaper due to less parts & you don't have to set another shaft angle

Personally I'd keep it simple but each to their own!

Your car looks bloody awesome by the way!

I think Derrin71 originally went with a two piece, then changed to a one piece on his build, but I am not sure why.

I looked at doing it as I had a two piece from the donor commodore , but decided on the one piece because it was simpler.

This build is awesome.
