In reply to your question, mostly 2k, spray quiet a bit of that.
Have done several cars in Acrylic, and a motorbike...But that was all a few years ago. I have a few spare panels here to frOck aroudn with to get the grove back before i hit my mates car, i aint gonna be satisfied till its PERFECT. Thankfully he's doing all the blocking hahaha.
Cheers.

Cheers Bomber,
The doors were real fidgety.
I have done all the prep work in 2 pack and I am using Dupont paints. I have painted in acrylic before on other cars and it is a lot more forgiving. I will try and borrow a mates booth to spray the car. I bought a Dura block the other day and they are perfect for the LX shape. Especially the roof. I have been painting some of the smaller items in 2 pack and they came out nice.
PS the missus goes for the bombers who beat my team Geelong last week.
Bastards! out of all the games we could of lost................
Nice repair......death to the tin worm!!!!
Bloody tin worms.... I have had a whole colony in this car. The price of Zincaneal went up because of the amount put into this car!

Really enjoyed this thread....
Thanks Napes.
That means a lot. It takes time to contribute. It nice to get feed back for the 2 years this car has busted my balls.
I have been putting off doing this thread since I joined.
Plenty more to come!
P.S.
Dirtbag is my GMH thread hero!
I read his UC conversion thread and thought why not do my own.
Its a shame he only builds orange Torana's.

I was just going to ditch the taillights until Dirtbag started posting the hatch up...... Now look what happened!! Thanks Tim ya big jerk! Now I'm attempting all sorts of crazy stuff!
Yes.... Orange does suck. Most of the time

I don't understand what you mean by "fake" candy. I'm sorry but I'm a moron. Can you explain kinda what is looks like to a deadshit like me?
I true candy is a clear/red tint (like cordial) that is generally applied over a silver base. They are very difficult to apply because the spray guns application run needs to meet perfectly at each application line in the painting process. If they don't the points that overlap create darker sections in the paint like zebra stripes. (more visible at night or shade). Do do them right the application needs to be perfect and very often the application viscosity is very thin so they can run if mistakes are made.
There are only a handful of painters in the world that can spray decent show quality candies. They generally get flown in. The booth is set up and the car is already prepared and they spray the car for wads of cash and take of to the next one.
Some of the newer cars have imitation candies/metailics that give a similar look but not the same depth in the paint. They are a lot easier to apply.
This is the 2011 Lexus colour. I like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LX's are also going up in price because they are also getting hacked up for graft parts. Its win win... for owners.
Except for all the poor toranas that are going to torana heaven.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm....Torana heaven................where rust doesn't exist and the roads a lined with matching numbered A9X's.

I think I also get what you are thinking of doing and it seems pretty good - the only thing I don't like about that Falcon is (IMO) it needs some of that dark colour down low across the sills as well just to make it more masculine, less tall and heavier in appearance if you get my meaning?
I have also often wondered what a car would look like with any given colour, say red or white and then stripes done in a metalic/pearled colour. So using that picture of the Forbes/Barlett A9X; say a white body with pearl white stripes in place of the coloured 'Martini style' stripes, or if you think of a red VE Commodore with factory trackstripes - make the track stripes candy as opposed to the decal black.
In any case, you've not gone wrong yet and so for sure you will nail the colour combination.
All the best and cheers, TB

I'm loving your work mate. Motivates me to get up early and annoy the neighbors with a grinder at 7:00am tomorrow.
Yes, I finally have a day off. Look out!

Hey mate, just found this thread and read thru the lot.. Awesome work, some serious rust repairs there and is really shaping up to be a nice car
Cheers Viper,
Good to see a fellow Perth Torana fan. Rust free hatches are hard to come by here.
Also good to see you have a TC gemini. My second car was a fire engine red TC.

I cant afford a decent stroker kit or the 8k crate motor at the moment. So I have decided to tidy up the motor just so i can get her on the road.
A mate helped me in his workshop. We stripped her down. Inside she looked good and fresh so she will have to be stock for the moment! Till finances improve.
Cleaned her up and replaced all the gaskets.
New core plugs
Rear main crank seal
New plugs new leads,
new water pump,
new lifters.
Harrop dual plane manifold
600 Holley.
Pro comp ignition set (yeah I know should have bought MSD)
Machined Flywheel
new heavy duty clutch kit
Stainless bolt kit.
Bead blasted the old paint of the Harrop manifold and painted in a custom blood red 2 pack metallic/pearl mix. I stumbled upon this colour when my paint supplier stuffed up a mix. (looks great in the sun) Also compliments the K frame.
Polished the rocker covers and water pump and alternator
Bought a low mount alternator bracket
Painted all components with VHT
Last but not least:
I cant afford a Super charger or turbo yet but I can still sound like one. A Gilmer pulley kit. Well maybe on quite.........
It may be stock but its got all the bits there so when I rebuild it it looks the part. Best of all it fits the budget which is the sub title of the thread. "Home built on a budget"

It all went together allright (edelbrock manifold & 600 holley) but it doesnt make great power and seems to be fairly flat down low.
I havent had any experience with injected motors but he seemed to think it was the cam being standard for the injection was not real compatable with carb induction.
Just something to think about ......im sure some one on here will know more about it.

Mate of mine used an injected VT motor in his landcruiser and had trouble with the injection so ditched it for manifold and carb.

Yes I've been told that too.
I opted for a dual plane manifold which may help. The Harrop manifold has also been machined inside to have better flow. I believe the ports are ground higher or rounded for better flow. I have the tech data sheet somewhere with the details.
When I get the car stroked I will get the VN heads machined to match. Chunky cam will also help.
Money Money. Money.........

I had to put the hatch seat folding hinges on so they fold down.
They are Torana seats with the headrests removed so i don't know how they will go for Rego in WA?
