Vertcal Gate Shifters

Are the shifters the same from toploader to Muncie etc,but with different mounting brackets and linkages,or are they completely different?
Im casually in the market for one to suit a Muncie, and was thinking if I saw one for the right price at a swapmeet for a toploader ,should I grab it.
Thanks in advance.

They cost more over there than they do here!
Ya, but everything in America is 7% off for you now.
(I put a vertigate in a big block '69 Dodge Dart I had built way,way back when...sure had to chop a decent hole in the floor for it, but was a cool conversation piece at least )

it was easier for the passenger to change gears. That hole put me right off.

I'd recommend a Hurst Indy H pattern if you want quick changes. That's what I had before the V gate on my top loader, and after 6 months of the V gate I'd well and truly had enough of it and put the Indy back on. Smiles all round : )
Just my opinion.

the vertical gate is painful, espesially when going from 3rd back to 2nd,it is not a shifter for the street, drag only,i,ve got the verticle in the blue monaro.
i have a mr gasket H patern on a muncie,it is brilliant, very small H patern,it is much better than the verticle gate.

Youd have bleeding fingers after a good city drive...
This will be for strip only, and I want one coz when you rip gears with them,it is so much fun.
The size of the hole in the floor wont matter a bit,as the tunnel will be replaced to fit the box anyway.
Craig,is the H pattern better on the upshift as well,or just a better because of the downshift?

Ive run one on a poxloader on the street in the past as well, and yep,on the street they are a nightmare.

i found the H pattern just as quick,if not quicker as the H is so small, the up shift to 3rd very quick, the vertical has a very long throw from 1st to 2nd ,2nd to 3rd and 3rd to4th, i prefer the very small H pattern for race and street.

The bracket is tilted approx 8-10 from vertical & the bolt in the last pic was a prototype bolt, I ended up using "button head" cap screws.

sold this Mr G last year complete with boot & plate plus
fitting kits for early muncie, late muncie & BW T10 for
$300 last year. Got a old VPW cat around somewhere I think
they were priced around $250+ for the shifter & 90 for each
fitting kit but its a fairly old cat.
Used to run it in my HQ many years ago with a welded 4.11 Dana 60
& yeah got sick of after a while on the street.

I moved the hole shifter about 75 to 100mm forward on a 12mm solid plate and shorten up the rods to shorten the throw .It worked well but alot of trial and errror but improved the throw no end.
To be honest u soon get over them.Floor has to be widen as well.
I then went to a hurst h pattern and was just as quick and more enjoyable to work with.
Dont for get the hole in the plate for the reverse rod mmm if you move it forward. yep fell for that one.
Just my three cents worth. But they are good fun till the noverty weres off.
