I would like all the engine related wiring to follow the original factory route.

Does anyone have a pic or diagram of where the relevant wiring should go?

Does the purple starter wire come up round the front of the motor and is the oil/temp wiring all bunched together with it? Does this wiring run across the top of the manifold? If so what side of the carb?

Is the main B+ wiring for the body harness taken from the alternator? Starter? Or battery Pos terminal?

Thanks.

Have you downloaded the workshop manual, i would assume it has a diagram of where to run the harness, i have it on my computer but can't seem to find it at the moment.

Which torry are you talking about.

As far as i know, later alternator models had the B+ wire direct to +ve of battery and +ve battery to starter
Early generator models had only one cable to +ve of battery, generator wire to live wire connection on ignition switch.

Using a factory GHM LH Torana workshop manual as a guide, i've tried to route the engine harness on my 1974 LH with 304 V8 as close as possible to how they were originaly. The harness runs along the top rear of the engine down to the starter motor. A metal clip that bolts on with the bell housing to engine block prevents the harness from touching the L/H/S exhaust manifold. The harness continues toward the front of the engine enclosed in a plastic sheath & exits just above the L/H engine mount where it is secured with another metal clip that bolts just beneath the engine number pad. It is then routed along the top of the timing cover to the temp sensor & alternator. The alternator charge wire runs parralel with it, secured to the cylinder head by a metal clip that also serves to mount the negative battery cable. My computer skills are limited so i can't scan the factory diagram but i can post pics of my engine with the harness in place.

This is the engine bay of my 1974 LH.

As you can see i'm still in the final process of hooking it all up. I'm running an MSD ignition, so i had to slightly modify the ignition side of the wiring but the engine harness still follows it's original route. Here a pic of where the harness runs to the starter motor & the metal clip that retains it.
Posted Image
Using the original plastic sheath, it runs along the L/H/S of the engine block.
Posted Image
I've run the harness through the engine mount, but it runs above it originally, but still held in place by the metal clip just below the engine number pad.
Posted Image
It then runs up along the top of the timing cover. Originaly the B- bolts to the very top outter hole on the face of the cylinder head (the basic bolt hole configuration is the same for both early & VN type heads) & also attaches a metal clip that holds the alternator charge wire, which then runs along the top of the timing cover with the engine harness. As you can see i attached it to the lower bolt hole without the metal clip.

The B+ & alternator charge wires are originaly secured to the chassis rail just rear of the battery tray by the same type of plastic clip that holds the fuel & brake line to the R/H/S chassis near the steering column. I haven't got that far with mine, but i can post a pic once it's done.

As i mentioned, i got my info from a genuine GMH manual, while my configuration isn't 100% to factory specs it is a guide & i hope it is of some help. Cheers Matt

Does anyone know if these clips are available any where??? Or does anyone have have a few they dont need?

They appear to have a hole in the end of them for a bolt to go through.

I think mick from torana restoration parts and accessories
is going to be doing these.
from a news letter...

Some items that we are working on at the moment include;
Engine harness clips (Small and large ones) for the V8's,
Radio Bracket (small one at the back) for the LH - LX Sedans,
Accelerator cable bracket for LX 4.2lt V8's,
