Where am I gonna get the extra grunt from? (dyno tuning ain't cheap) 150kw@wheels = 200 rwhp which is up around 250hp @motor (exactly what I was aiming at from the get go)

Tho I'm all ears if you got any more suggestion (as long as it doesn't involve making another manifold...lol)

No more manifolds? C'mon Adam, where's your sense of adventure? :P

What does the top end feel like now? I'd be really interested in the 1/4 mile speeds (even if they were, um, unofficial..). Reason being the original dyno figures proved to be pretty optimistic and I was wondering whether old mate has recalibrated it or whether these numbers are a bit happy as well. At any rate there's always more to be found, it's just a matter of looking for clues and the dyno chart will be a good place to start.

But I guess this is probably the last thing on your mind at the moment - enjoy the honeymoon!

Back.

Here is the dyno printout. It shows the old motor in blue and new motor in red.
Was obviously done with the same gearbox/diff/ tyre combo so in terms of comparison the only variation will be the weather and as johno said if old mate has re-calibrated his dyno in the last 12months.

The "feel" of the thing is pretty much as the dyno shows. There is no loss of down low pull or in other words there is no massive amount of off cam lag. However when is is in its power range it revs for another 1000 RPM or so and I'm guessing the increase in torque compared the the old motor is due to the less restrictive manifold and bigger cam.

Looking at the old dyno graph.. am I correct in saying that the flat torque curve is due to the maximum airflow being reached? ie. if the new manifold was put on the old motor would the torque curve follow a similar pattern to the new one?

I'm not game enough to do a quarter mile run anyware near town as the thought of ending up in the slammer or having the car taken off me doesn't sound like fun. It makes a lot more noise and picks up speed much quicker than it did before.

I'm heading up the River in a week or two so I should be able to find a nice stretch of road to give it a propper boot full.

Note. I'm also not game to kill it just yet because I haven't done the mod with the oil pump so It's reaching max 42psi at about 3,500rpm and holding it there.
how think approx does the shim have to be to get the extra 20psi before it bleeds off?

The nice thing about it is that you've got a pretty good increase in power and rev range without any real tradeoff in low speed torque. It's not often you pick up torque everywhere. I'd guess that the nice peak in the torque curve at about 120kph would be mainly due to the manifold and that the extension of the rev range mainly due to the headwork and cam.

Try about 1.5 - 2mm thickness of washers in the oil pump to start with. 60psi is plenty.

Un official (dodgy) 1/4 mile.
Somewhere around 13.5- 13.8 and MPH around 105.

Diff sounds a little worse for wear now  .

105mph, should be good for a 12.5 sec.(approx) pass, with traction.

I'm going off Rev's as I cross a marker. I would be very surprised if I cracked under a 13 sec.
I'll have to wait till AIR opens up a full track again or go down the 1/8 mile and extrapolate from there.

Do a pass of the 1/8th mile, note your mph, then do a second pass, trying to match your speed through the traps on your first pass as you cross the start line on the second pass.

Add the ET's together.

Cheers.

So when will i be able to place my order? haha

Nice work mate. Certainly better looking than the original over-head injection.

Soz for the tag along and dig up of the old post but I have to say that a very nice sounding and angry little 6 you got there....Sounds good enough for me to drop my v8 plans and go back to a six ! Nice job !!!

I'm sure its has driveability that is second to none with the injection on it so it has some street manners...Very nice

PS I had a look in your video library with the startup video..one of the videos showing you driving down the road has an embedded virus/threat something going on there in it..just a heads up

Very impressive, good to see someone else trying different things!

In our early engine development we made up a similar fabricated manifold and used 2 XF Falcon throttle bodies with the injectors moved around the runners to about 12 inches away from the head face.

We were always going to try staged injectors in this set up but moved onto the Ford head development instead.

All your hard work will be well worth effort when it is all finished.
