G'day all. I have recently aquired this LH torry as a Roller from another Forum member/Mate. some of you may reconise it from another thread about grenades or something :buttrock:

have a guess who's been babysiting it for me :dontknow:

anyway the plan is to get it registered using the 202 that came out of my VC Commodore, a freeebie gearbox, and anything else I can scab from anywhere. Im hoping to have rego by the end of next week so I can do some cruising, and use it as my daily since I recently sold my VT Commodore. I wont mess around with it too much at the moment as I want to finish off the EFI8 & T5 conversion on the VC first, and I have decided to take that a bit slower so I can do it properly. once the VC is finished I have a couple of ideas kicking around as to what to do to this LH

have a couple more pics of it being put together

these springs may explain the 'dog with worms' look

motor in and painted, it still wasnt running at this point

I still have a bit of work to do, the extractors are hitting the belhousing and not sealing against the head, so they have to come back out for some modification, Im too cheap to pay for a gearbox and the freebie being from a commodore has the shifter leaver on the wrong side, me wanting to keep the column shif means I have some figuring out to do as to how Im going to make it work, but I will work it out. other than that, the motor needs a tune up, it needs a steering rack boot and brake cyl then I should be right for rego. Aggro has some more pics but of the car before I started but he is yet to send them to me.

no they are pacemakers, but the section thats a problem has been welded after the ceramic coating was done, so someone has modified them before I got them. im going to have to cut that section out and rotate it to make them fit right. the joys of second hand parts... :Headbang2:

Bombers old rig hey, i remember seeing pic's of it a while ago now, i like the way it has the 2 tone colour set up. the blue and white go really good together. When i find the right HT Prem Wagon for the right price i will be doing the same as i did for a mate on his. it was monza metallic with cashmer roof. he drove it around while on his P's and then chucked it in his back yard after 5 yrs on the road and updated to a VU SS dunnydore then sold the wagon for $500 :Headbang2: we didnt talk for a very long time after that as he knew i wanted it if he ever sold it.

don't you hate when a mate knows you want something and then offloads it to someone else cheap.

anyway over the weekend I got it all together and running nicely, then today I booked it in for a roadworthy, on the way there the gearbox seemed to overheat and want to push its oil out the breather, and got stuck in first gear. buy this point I was close to my house so I let it cool off, dorve it a little, let it cool again then got it into my garage safely. I have spoken to a gearbox specialist and he reckons there is a good chance this box is knackered. he suggested getting another second hand one and having him service it and check it over. or I could overhaul the one I have but that would come close to 1k as apposed to spending a couple of hundred on a secondhand one and service.

long story short I have unfortunatley had a pretty major setback, but this is to be expected sometimes. so I will be trying to chace up another traumatic and doing the swap this week while Im off work hopefully. it would be nice to still make rego by the end of this week, but I will see how I go

here is a pic of it home safe and sound, sitting next to the VC, that I have been using as a shelf haha

yeah I might drop the pan and have a squiz inside before yanking it out, although I am not holding my breath. I had been worried this box was dodgy seeing the car it came from

Ok so I have gotten my hands on another gearbox, its all serviced and fitted up now, the other one was well and truly shagged. rather tha stuff around under the car in the garage risking hurting myself, I paid the workshop to fit the box up for me. I have had a back injury before, that wasn't fun.

This afternoon I drove it home and it went quite well, although it seems it wants quite a bit of speed up to get into top gear but hopefully thats just an adjustment issue.

The old girl is booked in for a roadworthy tomorrow and if that goes well it will be registered by lunch time. My roady guy Chris Holingsworth also does BLue plate inspections so it gives me an oppurtunity to discuss the legalities of some ideas of how I want to modify it later down the track

HAHA Big T, Holley aint too bad a bloke actually. infact that ute he rolled has been repaired, now has some pretty cool flames painted down the sides of it. it was at the trans shop that did my new box for me, althogugh it had an empty hole in the bonnet. apparently it hasnt seen the track since, I think he must have lost interest in it.

Dennis, the motor in the background is the 454 from Rowans Camaro, awaiting some repairs.

and DJ the LH is going to be completley rewired fairly soon, and if I get the chance I will try and tidy up the engine bay a bit more, fill some holes, repaint etc.

I had no real dramas with the roady, got it registered on friday afternoon, and have since been putting some km's on it. the old girl hasn't missed a beat, and drives quite well. all thats been bothering me is the gearbox wants to hold the gears too long, the vac line to the box was blocked so I replaced that, it has improved it heaps but still not perfect, I have got a new vac module thingo ordered through the trans shop, he is pretty confident that will do the trick

well over the past year of owning 3 cars and the headache that it has been, I have got my commodore back home from a workshop and still needing to be finished it lost its space in the garage, and not wanting to park the LH on the street for obvious reasons I asked a friend to look after it for me for about 12 months.... Well as it turns out I'm not getting the old girl back, I was offered reasonable money for it and now I am able to concentrate on finishing the commodore, and my trade in the truck body industry.

I do however still have a V8, 5 speed and R31 borgwarner that I have collected for it, and I do plan on using those in another torana or HQ in the future. but for now I have enough on my plate. cheers for the kind words and advice I have recieved in the past :burnout:
