Does anyone here have either of the long range tanks that were available when these cars were new?

The 80L has a deeper lower section and the 100L has this and a band around the middle. V8Gent had one in Agent Orange that was pinched from the workshop when the car was dismantled after the prang those many years ago. (I was buying it at the time....)

We need one of each to look at, we don't want to buy them, just to have a good look/measure.

If anyone can help, post here.

Grant..

Didn't know that long range fuel tanks were offered as a factory option?

Before the aluminium Brown Davis drop tank I had another Brown Davis long range tank that had the (approx) 5cm centre ribbon on a factory style tank that gave about 90 litres.

AFIK the band was fitted aftermarket.

Never thought there was a long range option on Torana unless the HQ-HZ tank was fitted.

Brown-Davis may still make the extended factory style fuel tanks.

Me and Les.Something for Cav to play with. (Byron, did you get that other tank to them?)
They weren't factory fitted but were available from many dealers and aftermarket.
AFAIK B/Davis don't make em now but may have to check again.HDT had a die years ago but dumped it....

Hi Guys,

I was talking with lxsstorana aka (Mick) here in Sydney regarding a petrol tank that I am going too get
made which is something like perhaps what you may sort of be looking or maybe not, I am getting the
fabricator that is doing my full chrome molly roll-cage & some seam welding etc on my SS Hatchback
take two tanks & add a little bit extra as I have wanted to do a factory style drop tank as I wanted some-
thing different & I may have the car at Torana Fest if that helps you out & if so I could take it along to a
shop here in Sydney & get a mould cast or whatever I could do that could help.

Regards Mark.

I really hope these long range tanks come to fruition. Love to fit up an 80L tank to mine (don't think I'll love having to fill it up though!)

Seems anyone with one is suspiciously absent or shy.
I know there are some still around and in use but currently don't have any details of specific owners........

I too would like an 80 litre tank so I'm interested to see if this thread progresses.

Never liked the aluminum tanks or that look for a road car. You get enough attention from over zealous police without having a bright low hanging 120litre tank attracting you more unwanted attention. Since the 80's I found it better to just cut the std tanks in half then add 2-3 inches (aprox 80litre) to the middle and mod the sender. Not rocket science and sanded/painted up it looks like a dead standard tank.

I've heard that before but never seen it done,
Can a HQ-HZ tank fit in a Torana? And if so, is there many mods to get it fitted?
Cheers

The only long rang tank that ever cam from the factory was fitted to Wayne Negus's car. From memery i think the factory joined 2 bottom sections together to make it.

After buggering around with the straps, I got one to fit. But i disposed of the car before getting the filler neck right.

I remember seeing a tank about a month ago that had been modified to be an 80lt. Had to dig around to find it but here it is, looks ok I think.

The width of the HQ tank sits in nicely between the rails. Have fun with the exhaust if you're running fatties on the rear.

Chopper
I take it you had no spare wheel bump in the floor?

Was it removed so the boot floor was flat?

I sold the car I started the conversion on 4 years ago, but I think I did remove the hump.

There used to be a white SS (very similar in looks to Polar8) in Albury that had an HZ wagon tank in it I believe.. Looked awesome from behind.

How far out was the filler neck ?

I'm only running 225's I've got a small tub there now that looks like a small drop tank that holds the LPG tank in it

Grant , any pics of that car?
