Thanks, It's sobering how much time goes into doing this kind of work. Around 60 hours went into the headers alone. They can be made in less time if the lengths are not critical but this guy had the budget and wanted everything perfect and show quality. All the joins were pulse TIG fusion welded using no filler and gas purged inside so there was no penetration bead inside the tubing to disturb the flow. I have been doing this work full time now for ten years so should be good at it by now.

Kudo's to anyone who does their own because it takes a special kind of patience, dedication and passion to get a top result. :bowdown:

Here's a 'budget' set (tuned length but just heat formed collectors) built for an all wheel drive V6 Mitsubushi.........

Yes, I am starting to understand the time and effort to make something like this. Also it�s a bunch of compromisers as the room is just not there or the collectors finish in different spot and so on. Very challenging for me. But love you

ive just finished a set for my 202. this is my first attempt at a set of pipes, im pretty happy with the outcome, but i think mach 2 will be improved... i like the collector you have made, mine dont look like they would flow as nice as yours at all.

Should've just bolted some stockies on upside down to get then to exit at the front of the motor. Would've been quicker.

Good effort BlueJinx.... we all start somewhere and get better as our skills develop. :buttrock:

Bomber is right, the collectors will be a bit restrictive but what you have built is far superior to the stock manifold!

This set was made for a HQ Series racer ...... About the only thing that's 'Free' on those cars is the exhaust and this set took the guy from mid field to top 3. They are stepped twice (1 3/8" to 1 1/2" to 1 5/8") to suit the controlled cam valve timing. Had to twist them around like that to fit within the engine bay under the stock intake and over the engine mount. Once again, all the same length within 1/2".

I made The collectors out of 2X45's. I think the problem was that because I've gone from 1.5" to only 1.5/8" if it went to 2" or something they would've looked better I think... Also because I've made the entry angle to sharp to the premade collector it didn't really work for me. Oh well i learnt alot and now I'm ready for the next set...

So you think my idea may have resulted in the exhaust hitting the induction system?

Just flip the inlet manifold upside down for more clearance.

Stinga, the time involved does make them a spendy item but that cost becomes worth it when everyone has the same spec engine/car and pipes are the only place to make a power advantage. About 30 hours in a set like this.

I make them for anyone A9X. Torana's and Mustangs are about the most difficult to do of the 'common' muscle cars. Maitland is a long way from me though I think and without your car to build them on I'd need to locate a donor car with an identical setup to fabricate them. We have had cars brought to us from as far away as Victoria to build pipes for them.... A couple of the Biante cars from Group NC are wearing our pipes and enjoying significant gains in track position. Sorry, no name dropping. Feel welcome to PM to discuss further as I will need more details of your engine to know what needs doing.

Years of experimentation helps Warren. There are ideal entry and exit angles and the size of the reduction/merge is also relevant. The approach angle is a direct proportion of the exit angle but unfortunately space does not always permit that to be made to perfect dimesions, so as close as possible in these cases has to be good enough. Engine characteristics like capacity, bore/stroke ratio's and valve timing plus intended use are the main factors for deciding what it will need. There are 'theoretical' formulae for calculating the dimensions (readily found on the 'net) but it's not an exact science. Most times the formulae are spot on or very close but occasionally it's not... that's when the experience helps to know when to go with the calculations or adjust a little either way. Roughly speaking the smaller the merge the more prominent the torque curve will be, however if you make it too small peak power will suffer. Knowing everything about the engine combo, the car it's going into and intended HP/RPM/ type of use allows us to make the most efficient pipes for that specific application. Blown is different to aspirated, hillclimb is different to speedway which is different to drags. One of our hillclimb customers has 2 different sets of pipes from us that he swaps for different tracks that require a different type of power delivery. Even turbo applications will respond better to a properly designed pipe off the exhaust housing rather than just a big one.

Craig iv had a go at my own exhaust, i have a 2 dr lj with an rb30 conversion which i did, shall post a few pics shortly, but the problem im having is exhaust ressonance, its a 3 inch ss exh with a resonator under the car and a muffler at the rear, now when your cruising at say 2000 rpm then accelerate or flash it up on the converter it has a ressonance around 2700 rpm thats real annoying, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
