I have no problems whatsoever with the standard gtr steering wheel. I think changing the offset will help a lot.

Gday all,i need help with a problem i have just encountered.

I have an lc that ive nearly finished with an injected 5l in it,my problem

is that the steering wheel hits my knees which is out of a corvette that looks
like the lc gtr wheel but has different off set..................

Has anyone encountered this or does anyone know if i get a proper lc gtr wheel

with the 4inch offset would it help.Im not a big bloke either so god knows how a big bloke

would even get in the seat let alone drive it.

I also have original seats in it so the only things that are not the norm are the wheel and

the fact that ive pushed the column over to fit the donk.

I have S2 Corvette wheel, (15 inch diameter, 2.75 inch dish) and repro boss in my LC, sits as far as I can see about same as standard LC wheel.

Do you have pictures of your wheel in the car?

My car is in many pieces at the moment and I don't have any pictures of the wheel in the car to compare, but I do know where mine used to sit.

I'm just under 6 foot, and didn't have issues at all,

Can you post some pictures?

I would suspect it's due to the column being moved for the V8 conversion, my column is in original position.

Gday simon,ill try and get some pics up mate and im sure that moving the column over for

the conversion hasnt helped but its hasnt moved drastically.Anyway ill get some pics.

Sounds good, I can sit a seat in mine this weekend and the wheel on and measure for you

Boss looks same as mine, as does wheel,

Given that these wheels are smaller diameter, you would think they would give more room, but then the dish is 1 1/4" less.

Wheel does look different angle compared to mine with standard location.

How far across do you move the base of the column, to get extra room for the 5 litre?

maybe, as I have found, when the front seat was re trimmed, the trimmer in his wisdom added extra springs including coil springs in the original seat base, so now the seat doesn't sink much, and I have the same problem you do in a sedan with std steering wheel. just a thought.
also the sedan has 2 positions the seat can be bolted to move either forwards or back

Not quite the same set up as yours but has V8 shifted column and about twice the clearance you do. I dont think the smaller ( I am assuming) steering wheel on mine accounts for much of the difference. My seats are autotechnica.

Hi Daniel,

Here are some pics of mine, I loosely bolted the drivers seat back in and fitted the Corvette Wheel on the repro boss.

Mine measures around 145 mm from seat to lower edge of wheel, with seat in full forward position. However, I only had bolts loose and front of seat was around 15mm off floor at front. So with seat bolted down tight, I have approximately 160mm seat to lower edge of wheel. Measurement from dash pad to top of wheel is 60mm.

The column in mine is in stock location, seats were loose bolted in front holes.

I can sit in car no worries at all, and have taken some pictures from all angles and also with the seat right back,

Thanks Simon,everything looks pretty much the same although my seat may be a bit thicker

more padding possibly.So your knee doesnt hit the wheel when going for the clutch???

Standard carpet. As measured from floor to point on seat level with that measured in earlier pics approx 24cm.
Floor to lower edge of steering wheel approx 49cm.What does yours measure?

I have approx 320 from carpet to top of seat and approx 420 from carpet to bottom of the wheel.

Maybe i need to pack on some kg's so that i squash the seat down more to give me more room.

Or lose enough to slip easily into the current small gap!

I assume your wheel is also 15" diameter? Mine is approx 13". If so the difference from floor to wheel in yours and mine should be 490 - 25 = 465mm approx (less because of the angle of the wheel). As yours is 420mm this suggests your column may have some down tilt from the conversion as compared to mine. It would be helpful to know what the same measurement is in Simons car from carpet to lower wheel rim.

Rexy, you are spot on I have 460mm from floor to lower edge of wheel rim, 15 inch wheel.

Daniel, do you have picture of where column passes through firewall?
