The t400 hits the tunnel as they are a lot larger the the t350 in size. When you put the box in you will see where you need to use a BFH to get more clearance arround the box as it will hit the floor.
Find someone who has a t400 in their hatch and you will know for sure but from what i have read and heard you need to make more room in the tunnel for them.

Im pretty certain no tunnel mods are required for the th400. It is big and is tight, would depend on crossmember used also.

Nice list of parts above, very nice.

Have had a T400 behind both an 308 and 350 in an LX hatch. Although the tunnel was full it didn't require any mods or hit/rub on the floorpan.

well after weighing up all the options and listening to forum members (that have valuable advice) i have decided to go with a beefed up TH350 and 3000 stall, which i have now ordered via town & country transmissions in hammy hill.
i have also had a chat to fullnoise (as suggested) and he will be making me a custom set of extractors.
hopefuly have some pics to put up once the gear starts to arrive.
cheers

Quick update brought the trans, it’s a th350 apparently good for 700hp here’s a pic

needs a good tidy up to get it up to standard (take all the little burrs off and give it a clean smooth paint job)

i would be asking why it still is using a vacum modulator on the gearbox. A t350 to take 700 hp requires a fair bit of tlc and you need to ask what has been done to it and what aftermarket parts have been used. A well built t350 is a good combo in a Torana over a powerglide which seems to be the common fitment with a small block chev.

i dont know alot about gearbox internals but thats what the guy who owns town and country automatics told me he also said if i can break it he can replace it as his rep is on the line.

this is what it reads on the invoice,
stage two shift kit, TCI deep pan, 36 element direct clutch drum, red eagle racing clutches, dual feed top clutch, 20,000km warranty

any experts out there know what it should handle?
will it handle what i have got?

well after hunting around i have found a diff and i came at the right price and all that i was after.. it needed a bit of TLC but it has come up nice.
PS 1420mm from face to face.

housing paint strippedand sanded

Posted Image

little imperfections filled

Posted Image

Posted Image

i sand blasted and painted outside of centre and fitted with new over sized diff pinion yoke

Posted Image

Posted Image

disk brake backing plates ready for sand blasting

Posted Image

Posted Image

after old shoes removed and blasted

Posted Image

Posted Image

bit of primer

Posted Image

and the same with the calipers

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

bit of black

Posted Image

little clean up of bolts and rubbers

Posted Image

caliper going back together

Posted Image

backing plate has got new shoes

Posted Image

some paint on the housing

Posted Image

for some reason there was no breather on the housing so i put one on

Posted Image

Posted Image

pressed the new trailing arm rubbers in and fitted the centre

Posted Image

Posted Image

fitted calipers, backing plates facing forward as the clearance in the rear position was up to sh#t between the shock and caliper axles in and new rotors got them shaved on the inside to mactch the hq diameter

Posted Image

also heres a pic of the backing plates in the rear position

The only problem with mounting the callipers in the forward position is that the calliper gets in the way of the handbrake cable.

A few people have connected the handbrake cable with the callipers in the front position but personally I do not like the angle of the cable.

I had some backing plates modified to mount the calliper in roughly the 11 o'clock position. I am going to get some more made up in the next couple of weeks.
