I thought I was ahead of you.....how wrong I was...

What method did you use to repaint the hotwires? Masking wise?

As promised Brad...

Here are my wheels from beginning to end....

Posted Image

Good old fashioned Hotwires... A bit dull, but not for long.... 8x14 to the front and 10x14 to the rear...

Posted Image

Here they are after I had them polished.... They looked good, but then the painted areas lacked a bit of lustre....

Posted Image

Bought some 3mm edging (or lining) tape to masked the spokes... Many spokes had to be taped twice to ensure a crisp line on both edges... And yes, that is a Red Kangaroo Joey helping.... BTW, that's my wifes nail polish there in the corner... :D

Posted Image

The other edges were taped with 6mm lining tape

Posted Image

The centres were covered....

Posted Image

... and the dish covered with newspaper...

Posted Image

Here it is a couple hours after spraying... I used an air brush as the regular spray gun left it with a dry finish... I sprayed it with GMH 2pac satin black...

Posted Image

The following day the centre was taped up with the 6mm edging tape, followed by masking tape and newspaper...

Posted Image

The centres were sprayed with a regular spray gun...

Posted Image

Here's the final product... A bit of a hassle spraying it twice with different guns, but well worth it as the finish is very even between the spokes and on the centre...

Posted Image

Time for some new rubber... I'd like to give Wayne, a fellow forum member a big thank you for finding these for me, it was greatly appreciated!!!! :spoton: As many of us know, finding big 14's is getting to be a bit of a challenge....

Posted Image

All fitted up... 245 to the front, 265 to the rear...

Posted Image

The proof is in the pudding.... Here they are all fitted with the re-polished centre caps... BTW, I would like to give my AWESOME wife a big thank you for all that painful taping up.... :spoton: .... Far too fiddly for me... :banghead:

Awesome work. Particularly going to the effort of restoring the hotwires and finding some kick arse tyres. I really admire the work you've done on this machine.

Oh gee, thanks mate...

The tape is very flexible, it's a bit like insulation tape, but narrower and thinner.... I bought it from an automotive paint trade centre, places like Supacheap etc won't have it.... If memory serves me correctly it was $10-15 for a 50 metre roll... Email me Brad if you get stuck....

Cheers

Hey, they're the same as my front ones... I'll tell you what I did if you're interested, polished the spokes. Typically they're a machined finished, so a lot of sanding and buffing is in order, but they look AWESOME when they're done...
