Hey guys on Friday I was trying to dismantle the 253 to get it on the stand to clean up etc, but can't (don't know)get flywheel off. It's got the shallow headed bolts in the centre is that how it comes off? Bugger keeps spinning as I try to take it off... Will put a socket on the crank nut and that should stop it turning so I can attack the flywheel bolts?
Cheers.

stick one of the bellhousing bolts in the block..on the left side looking at the flywheel..then a large flat blade screwdriver in one of the teeth and then get a decent breaker bar on there
or a rattle gun

throw a bellhousing bolt in,and get a decent size flat tip in the teeth of the flywheel against the bolt to help stop the flywheel turning while your trying to crack the bolts

The V8 flywheels normally have a hole right through which you can just push in a suitably sized old bolt so it grabs on the skirt of the block to stop everything moving

Long thin phillips head screwdriver through one of the small peripheral holes in the flywheel works a treat.

Just use a bearing shell on the ring gear and hard up against something protruding from the block such as a dowel or bellhousing bolt.
