I got those panels of an ebay seller http://stores.ebay.c...sid=p4340.l2563, the beaver has the top and bottom lips that the rares ones don't, and it fits good (its made for LH/LX so the back of the panel doesn't follow the UC boot floor, but I'll fix that), but the lower quarter is way off so I'll have to chop it up to get it to fit - I wouldn't buy another one.

I was hoping to paint some of these repairs this weekend so I didn't want to wait for online orders, with all the bits I order its nice to just walk into a shop and buy things sometimes!

This is how far out that lower quarter section is -

DSC00751_zps19b2c470.jpg

I've done plenty of repair panels before and they're never perfect, but seriously? that's like 2 inches too long. Don't they own a tape measure?

Lucky I can chop it up and use most of it...

I think you're supposed to tack in on, then trim to length at the wheel arch end.

Better to be too big than small.

Nice project, enjoying following it.

Nah the other end is shaped to fit the slight flare of the wheelarch and has the lip as well. No big deal for me to chop it up but I'm sure it would confuse the hell out of someone that's never done one before.

But like you said, better to be too big than small...

I grabbed a Resto Rods one, and it seems spot on after a quick look, but I'll know for sure when I go to fit it with a panel beater mate. Sure that one is for a Torana?  :banghead:

Actually, I meant Retro Rods. Check out the website Growler, there is a full price list on there. Www.retrorods.net.au. Prices are good as far as I am concerned and service was excellent, but I am yet to fit the panel. I have bought a beaver panel off them too.

Peeled off this old patch from the rh rear quarter (few screws and a bit of sikaflex) -

Guess what was underneath it -

BLEH!

Also been finishing up the patch work on the holey chassis ends -

Haven't done much the last few weeks, we've been renovating the house instead. I did have a new home for the UC built but -

Will be nice to have it under cover now...

Welded on the RH quarter repair section, besides being a bit long it was actually a pretty good fit. It didn't have the bumper bulge-y bit so I cut most of the back off and kept mine.

DSC00782_zps9b488295.jpg

Not a great pic but I forgot to take more lol. Weld is a bit rough looking because I only have a gasless mig, it's plenty strong just more splatter etc.

I was tired of fixing rust this weekend so we tinkered under the bonnet instead. We fitted the splash-guards, had to mods the rh side for the charcoal canister hoses -

DSC00786_zps7c442184.jpg

Looks so dusty and spider webby in that pic, I'm gonna have to go clean it now lol.

Also more or less finished all the P/S hoses (I've been waiting on fittings I ordered) so next weekend I can drag out the old HQ radiator it had and see if it's worth reusing. If not I might order an aluminium rad off ebay...

Cool job on the hoses - where did you get the rubber grommets? I need a bucketload of the things and aren't sure where to start. :-)

Not positive, but I think the HQ rad will need some cutting to fit it in the bay. The one I have was going to, anyway. I went another way instead.

I bought one of these assorted grommet kits on ebay - http://www.ebay.com....=item53dd7b8179 comes with blank off ones too, and its cheap!

The HQ rad I've got used to be in this UC when it was running the 253, so its already got the side bands trimmed to fit. Its pretty old but so I might try one of these - http://www.ebay.com....984.m1423.l2649 . What sort of rad are you running?

Cool - was eying that off, but don't trust eBay until I've heard from someone. I'll grab it.

I am running the vn rad out of my donor car, Derrin71 showed me how he did his and I am pretty much copying his method cos it is much better than the way I dreamed up. It needs custom brackets and all that - part of the fun for me, did half last night - but the rad you are going for seems good. Amazingly cheap!

Crazy cheap, last time I ordered an ally rad it was 'cheap' at $800. The must be some really poorly paid chinese workers knocking these things out in a factory in asia somewhere...

Wow last post was 2013!

This project was put on hold and almost abandoned, work commitments and life in general getting in the way - but I'm back into it and glad I kept it.

Starting where I left off, fixing rust!! Chop chop, weld weld, grind grind....

Great to hear Garth, it will be worth it. I know how life can get in the way as my project stalled for many years & now mines finally in the paint shop. An added bonus is whatever your spending on the resto will come back in spades with increased value in Toranas now. Keep posting pictures of your progress and forum members will try and keep you motivated. I also want to see those unwanted parts from up North put to good use!!

Hi Garth, understand about life etc. etc but glad you kept it.  My son sold a 2 door LJ and an LH and I wish I could have bought them and kept them for him.  Cheers Ron

Looking through all the awesome parts I've collected (including some from a certain pale blue hatch ^^) definitely helped motivate me to get back into it.

Thanks Ron, I think we've all had cars we wish we'd kept - I bought and sold so many old Holdens over the years, now I can't bear to look at what they're worth lol.

Last of the rust on the RH side of the tail light panel, lucky I have a good doner section to chop up (funny how easy it was to find UC taillight cuts  ...)

Bit of welding and grinding...

That was the good side, wait till you see the rust on the left! I plan on replacing that whole side but the panel cut I have is not perfect so if any one has a nice lh rear UC corner they dont need, let me know!
