HI all

Thanks to all who have given me feedback on my work so far.

We have had our LC for about 13 years now, originally from my better half's grandmother who has had it from new! Just a beautiful little car!! It's a 1970 LC 4 door SL, 161 auto in original condition. I have done very little with over the years except put a 186 in it, convert to disc brakes up front, convert it to a floor shifter (original torana stuff) and put 14 inch wheels on it. Sure, it had its issues but nothing major as it was a weekender anyway.

The build all started from a torn roof lining. I had to remove the front and rear screens and there we found some rust around the usual spots on the screens. Well, from there, you know how it goes...

Here are a few links of the work done so far.

Anyway, after a brake and wheel upgrade and a rebuilt steering rack, a full strip down has happened and I just dropped her off to the painters 2 weeks ago for a freshen up.

Off she goes on the trailer.

I'm going with a 2 pack original colour with blackouts around the windows. I will post more pics on progress as we go.

Other plans include an auto to manual conversion (aussie 4 speed) behind a blue 3.3 with webbers and a freshen up on the interior.

Happy with the planum repair... he used the rear screen repair section which worked a treat! All rust treated inside, holes welded up where needed. He was surprised how good the body was and it was great to hear that nothing major was found while sanding...

So far, so good!!

This looks great! This is how I would IMAGINE a factory Bathurst XU-1 could have looked like way back in 72 before it all went pear shaped!!

Hi all..

Nothing new to blat about the paint job.. still there and not much has been done in the past few weeks. As normal, there are always other jobs that take priority.. mind you, I'm not in a hurry so I shouldn't complain.. (excited though!)

In the meantime, I have purchased my rubber kit and sourcing some trim bits so I'm ready to start with the roof lining when I get her back. I got a great deal on a shifter for my manual conversion at the swap meet so that will be on the start list as well..

I actually enjoy tracking down bits for it.. as difficult as it is at times, its very exciting when you come across the bits you are looking for.. thanks to the guys who have helped me from here so far also!!

Anyway, hopefully when I'm home next time there will be some progress to report..

Cheers

Hi all.. there is progress!!

I checked in today to see how things were going and things are moving,,, he has cut in on the inside stuff, doors, bonnet and boot and the color looks great! I haven't got anything to compare the fresh paint to, but looks like a good match with some of the original paint inside the sills and doors.. Looks Great!!

Thanks for that slick.... I sure will... Mine wasn't too bad either and by the time I bought all the gear I needed, It wasn't worth me doing it. I didn't have the time either... I reckon if I had a crack at it, it would still be waiting for me...

Still a long way to go but glad its finally home so I can get cracking on it..

More pics to come...

Things are coming together pretty good.. I must say.. the rear doors are a total PAIN in the you know where to put together!!

The rear outer seals are just shit!! There is a curve in the rear door so you have to bend the shape into it before they go on...

Working on the interior, roof lining at the moment... hmmmm this will take me a few days.. Chrome trim is on and looking good..

More pics soon.

Hi Eric,

The car is coming up really well, you must be happy with it.

Are you doing all the trim yourself? Looks great so far

Regards Simon

Thanks Simon..

Yes, I'm fitting it all myself... driving me nuts but I am enjoying it. I'm just having a go at the roof lining now so that will be good to get that done... I can then get the sceens fitted...

For a budget build, it's looking great! It's not a show car, I'm building it to drive...

Thanks Modnizd.. tested me but it will do...

I did a bit of a fix on the dash, ended up having to hit it with some fresh paint as the inside of the planem repair wasnt painted and I'd better do it before the screen goes in... I got the paint matched at the local paint place who did a pretty good job, a little out but you cant notice it when the crash pad is on.. threw some paint on the ash tray as well and came up a treat!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

I fitted the rear tail lights as well and a few little odds and ends..

Posted Image

Its coming together nice.. got the screens going in on Wednesday..

Posted Image

Gotta sort out some surface rust on the floor, treat it and paint before I get to work on fitting the carpet..

Hi all

Things are coming along nice, at the end of my holidays so back to work tomorrow.. bugger!!

I have been working on getting ready to do the 4 speed conversion, sorting out what clutch set up to use and working on the GTR dash..

I have ordered some new VDO gauges and senders and I will change the amp for a volt gauge. Can someone tell me what facia this is from? I thinking maybe HB?

Posted Image

Also, the Tacho has a 4/6 switch on the back. Is this normal?

Posted Image

Posted Image

I got this Dash in Wagga Wagga 12 years ago so its been in the parts bin for a while! I got it serviced by Tisco a while back but have not touched it since. The lugs are perfect at the back to take the gauge mount.

The aussie 4 speed is ready to go in. Maybe next time round.

Posted Image

I am going with a Cable clutch set up. I got hold of a WB bellhousing and am using a 4 cylinder clutch pedal. Info is here for that..

http://www.gmh-toran...nversion-on-lc/

I'll keep you posted..

Cheers
