I found it...

It was in a Dealer Service Bulletin... it quotes..

"A new cylider head assembly comprising a modified 161 cylinder head with inlet and exhaust valves diameter increased by .13 in. and .15 in. respectively. Valve guide bosses reduced in section within ports, valve spring seats revised to accept V8 valve springs with dampers and inlet valve guides modified for special valve stem seals."

Interesting...

Hi Eric,

It's a 186 red high compression head, with small kidney shaped combustion chamber,

Started out looking like this

Posted Image

Has been converted to 12 port long ago, with alloy dividers

Hi Eric, our club just had a tech day at Head Stud Devolopment they are a leading head repairer here in Melbourne specializing in red motors.
They said the 161 head is their head of choice because of the small chambers. A 12 port head will give you more torque but will run out of revs at 5500rpm

Thanks Simon... 186 with dividers... very nice!!

Great info Anthony!! Thanks for that... 5500 rpm... I have always said I'm not building a race engine so that will be fine... I think I will keep going with the blue... Better bottom end IMO and although newer is not always best, it will do for what I am using it for... low down torque is good for my cruiser...

I had thought I would put a red head (161 maybe) on top of a blue bottom.. if a simple bolt on helps why not? I can keep going with the bottom end for now anyway...

Cheers...

Hi all..

Well, I got to sorting the rear outer weather strips and boy... what a pain in the butt!!

I ended up sicaflexing them on... rough I know but there is not many options out there at the moment..... With that job out of the way, I fitted the inside door panels and all is looking nice...

Posted Image

I also sorted my windscreen washer switch... I fitted a push switch inside the original unit and all works sweet!!

Hi Eric,

That looks a really painful job. I have seen that the 4 door outers are not really that close to what they should look like.

Looks like you are close to finishing and onto the fiddly jobs now,

Regards Simon

Nearly there... I'm just getting through the small stuff... and waiting for the rear seat to come....

Hi all

I got my tank fuel sender done and picked it up today... the boys at Aisat fitted another strip inside the sender to match the VDO gauges and all is sweet!! The new gauges are great as they are dampened so you get a steady reading instead of the bouncing needle the old ones did....

The rear seat cover came also so that will go on over the weekend....

More pics soon...

Cheers..

Thanks all!!

I ended up with Lovells fronts springs and Pedders Gas all round. I had the springs laying around in the parts bin and was hoping they would work... Phew... all good..

Im having problems trying to find a set of rear springs that Im happy with... Most do a standard and the lowered are just too low... I have left the original rears on for the moment... just the right height... sagged and all... lol.... Has anyone got any suggestions? I did the ring around to most of the usual brands but no joy.

Hi Eric

I have had 3 brands in the back of mine, all lowered.

Found Lovells sat the car the lowest, then Pedders and Kings sat it highest when fitted.

Hope that helps a little,

Regards Simon

Use the lowered springs then fit spacers under the spring pad to lift the car to the desired height.
These were cut with a hole saw.

Thanks for that...

So Simon.. what are you running now and how does it sit? Im running 14" 185/65/14 and where it is now is spot on...

I have measered it and its at around 483mm... can you measure yours and let me know how it sits with what type of spring please?

Thats a great idea Warren!! I might have to use that trick if I cant get something I'm happy with!!!

Cheers

Hi Eric

I have Lovells lowered height and 480 mm for same measurement, with 13 inch rims and 185/60/13

Sounds pretty close to what you get.

I can drop one out at the weekend and measure free length as I am not 100 per cent sure these are my lowered set, car doesn't seem that low in rear at the moment

Hope all that helps

Regards simon

Thanks for that Simon!!

I did call Lovells and it sounds like you have standards from the measurement... with mine being 14's, if I add about 13 mm so that makes it around 493mm, give or take a bit with tyre profile, that will pick it up fairly high...

I think I got that right... lol... no need to pull one out thanks mate....

I'll keep looking but no rush for the moment... I might use Warren's idea if I cant find anything...

Cheers

Hi Eric

Looks awesome, well done.

If it was me I would leave the rear spoiler off, but that's just personal choice. I reckon the car looks so clean and subtle at he moment, just right.

Looks good. I too don't like bob tails on 4 doors. I won't be putting mine on.
