Trying to get a hold of the 140mm wide hatch flares.. Anyone know if Hornet is still in business? I called the number that Ruts gave out & it says disconnected.. Can someone supply the correct contact number or does someone have a pair of wide flares they don't need? cheers Ando
I'll show you how to cut hatch back guards from start to finish

Ando why you just get a standard hatch rear flare and widen it yourself. Mount it on the car and then cut it half way through from front to back leaving about 10mm from each end. Pull the flare open to where you want it then make up a couple of little steel tabs then screw then to the top so that the flare is held open at the gap you want. Take the flare off leaving the steel tabs in place, turn the flare over and glass it back up from underneath first. When the glass sets take the steel tabs off then glass the gap in the top.
Just a thought. I will be doing this myself with my hatch.

Hi Ruts, I thought I may have to do that if I can't get a pair of the extra wide flares.. Just easier to buy obviously but I don't know if Hornet is still in business & makes them or not..
The wide flares looked like they were angled up slightly to maintain the standard flare outer lip height for suspension travel.. Would that be correct? By the way..great tutorial!
If someone has a pair they don't need.. please pm me.. cheers Ando

The amount that you would need to move it out wouldn't make much difference to the outer lip angle. If you were worried about the outer lip height just mount the flare a few mill higher. The only problem is that you have to modify the flare a bit at the front and rear to make it fit properly.
Thanks the compliment.

The intrusion bar blocks access to fit the nut on the highest door flare bolt.
Has anyone else successfully fitted this bolt without hacking the intrusion bar? A nutsert may work? A new non intrusion door would also work, but I would prefer not to do that at this point.
I am thinking a hole saw straight in from the inner door would work, but not as neat as I'd like. Any ideas?

Great thread Ruts, I have used it to fit my flares and it's worked brilliantly. Until I got to my passenger rear door which has intrusion bars fitted (the other rear doesn't).

I drilled thru the intrusion bar, then ground down a nut to fit between the intrusion bar & inner door. Don't over tighten it.
I tried nutserts but they lifted the flare off the door. Which opened the door end gap up even more.

You can get Clinch Nuts that are proud and flush. I'm using the flush ones on my flares and bonnet scoop and you would never know.
