VE Commodore Omega or V model, any issues?

Howdy,

The gearbox on the shithead corolla has busted again (covered by warranty thankfully) so the missus has cracked it and decided we are buying a VE Commodore (much to my disgust as I wanted an XR6).

An SV6 VE is just out of our price range so an Omega or V with a spoiler and alloy wheels with suffice.

I am looking at less than 110,000 km and have found several that suit but thought I would ask around here if anyone has a VE Omega and what they think of it. Do they have any particular problem areas to look out for? Or any other info that would help when I go looking.

We are also looking at low km VZ SV6's but I the other half has her heart set on a VE.

And Im joking about the XR6 :)

I have a 2009 VE Sportswagon with the 3l six. Havent had any issues at all, nice driving car and I have 47000km on it. Service is every 15k.

If you choose an 2008 or earlier VE, they will have no warranty, however in 2009, Holden introduced a 6 year warranty on the cars. Just something to keep in mind when you are looking around.

Flat battery issues when first released in 06 but seems to be sorted now.
O/heating is another problem, water pumps wear out prematurely IMO, and radiators explode. No too common yet though.
And try not to lock the keys in it. :Headbang2:

Some Mum's let the bubs play with the keys.
You just can't do that these days.
Some cars can't be unlocked externally and the only way in is to break a window.
VE can be entered but it's not a 5 second job.

I've lost count of how many cars I've attended and Mum is sobbing and the bub is screaming it's guts out.
Not a happy place to be.

Wes has his own keys to his own Torana and if he loses them I have another five sets of random keys that will do the job :)

I always make sure Mellisa has a set of keys separate to mine so that in the rare occasion she locks the keys in the car a back up isnt too far away. Wes never plays with proper keys though, I cant afford to lose them !!

Don't buy a VE, get the VZ.

Ves are an excellent car, brother has an 06 model, hasnt had a drama thus.far.

Driven a VE SS and loved it apart from chunky a pillars, also driven mates VZ and it felt nice to drive but is getting old.
Dunno bout the rear wing, first thing id do is get rid of it as it blocks vision over the bootlid.


Personal preference based on changes between the VZ and VE.

Not a fan of plastic radiators, our VY with 120000klms radomly split the side of the tank out.

That started with the AU Fowlcoon and progessed from there.

If you can talk her into a fraud in your price range do it.Back seat is wider between the doors, steering is more intuitive, engine is much more responsive and fuel efficient.Parts are also cheaper should it ever need repairs.Grant..

But the interiors feel junky and the.chassis Architecture is outdated...

Zero issues on 2006 VE SSV over 100,000kms, now have 33,000km on 2010 HSV, again no issuea.

When they were first released, I went to the same bloke 3 days in a row with a flat battery.........and he'd had it back to them.....................poor bugger was spewin' by day 3. :furious:

Now, I'd be lucky to go to one once a fortnight...............regardless of age.

There was something in the software that left things on.

I do recall during one service that they said they had updated the software that controlled the battery charging. This was unsolicited as I never had a battery issue.

Personally i'd much prefer a XR6.

Drove a VE SV6. It felt like a whale, didnt go, didnt stop, didnt turn, was generally shit and worse to drive than my flogged out VS Acclaim.

But thats just my opinion, some people love them.

I have a SV6 sportwagon and just traded my 08 SSV ute on a series 2 Thunder no issues at all both cars are great to drive

I went from a VT wagon that I bought new to a VE sportswagon. The difference is chalk and cheese. The VE goes like a cut snake, handles great and stops amazingly well. And I am not afraid to dish it out.

Thanks for all the input fellas :spoton:

I tried on several occasions over the past year to steer her the way of the blue oval but the young lass is just too red blooded. The boy is the same, wouldnt know a falcon from a camry but he can spot a Commodore before I can. So it looks like the only inline sixes in my shed are going to be red ones.

We checked out this VE tonight and if all goes to plan it will grace our driveway on Saturday arvo.

Its a Black 2006 VE Omega with a couple of personal touches such as rear spoiler, colour coded external mirrors and door handles, lowered (25mm) King Springs, 17 inch 2009 VE alloys (as well as the standard 16's thrown in) and a chrome exhaust tip (10kw extra right there). Its owned by an older dude who is one of those fastidious car nuts and it shows as the car is in great condition with only a couple of stone chips on the bumper. The rest is spot on. Its got 88,000 kms on the clock and all the creature comforts but the best bit, its on holden fitted (factory I believe?) duel fuel. For the small reduction in boot space I reckon the benefits of running gas will make themselves clear quite quickly.

All for the grand sum of $15k. I know, I could get a cheaper VE, but this one ticked all the right boxes and the factory gas is a huge plus. Not only that, its the missus that will be driving it and she liked it so thats all that really matters (if one wants a life of peace and harmony :D) She will soon tire of the V6 and want a V8 so an upgrade to my liking is just a matter of time.

Door handles lowered 25mm??? Oh, sorry my err.

Those G6E's aren't bad. Stick like shit to a blanket.

I found the V6 VE's a bit noisy, but maybe just shit tyres on the hire cars. The 6.0L SS VE, you couldn't hear the tyre noise, the symphony drowned it out.
