Ive just fitted my fuel tank and I'm a little concerned about the position of the filler neck. I've already tried to shift the tank as far forward as possible however it appears that the cap will foul on the fuel flap door?? How does the position compare to others?

That looks wrong. If you bolt up the number plate holder would it sit flush or rub on the tank neck?
The fact it sits low is fine, the sticking out is the issue.
If you want photos, let me know, garage is 15 metres away.

Pics would be most helpful Phillip! I've dummied up the flap door and with the fuel cap fitted it rubs. Bit if the cap is not on it clears. Not sure if this lockable cap is to big?

Here you go. I doubt it has anything to do with the cap.

Well thinking and looking at those pics... Im going to pull the tank back out and perhaps try to bend the neck??? Its the only thing that would fix it....

The problem may be caused by the locking cap not the fuel filler. Try fitting a factory fuel cap or get pictures with the cap removed to compare.

Looking at those pics though... My neck is resting on the body work, where as this pic show it well clear.... So I think the only option is to bend the neck....

Been there done that. The problem is the tank not mounted properly .
From memory, it has to be sort of clipped in along the rear .
My first fitting of the "new" tank put the filler exactly where yours is.
I am sorry I ca'nt be more specific on how to fix it, but it is easier with a helper to
assist you. Whatever you do, DO NOT BEND the filler neck as it will crack
around where the neck enters the tank.
Just went and took a pic for you, there are 2 brackets that the rear lip of the tank sits up on,
I bet your tank is just held up under them by the straps.

Hope this helps.

Here is how my filler sits:

Just that bit higher - the width of the bracket clip.

Thanks for your input mate. I've confirmed my tank was sittig above the brackets at the rear. The only way that the filler neck can be made to sit in the correct spot is if the front of the tank is lowered. That brings the neck up off the body work.

looks much better now hanra
front airdam can be the next tricky fix
start at the centre with brake duct bolts in
and work your way around to the flares last
if you can get some of the original
retaining brackets they will help keep it all in place
red may have those as well

Good idea about the brackets Dave. I dont have flares so one less thing to worry about. Ill deal with the airdam at a later date.... Im working my way from the rear of the car to the front!
