Today I had the opportunity to go to Holdens relaunch of the Hurricane.
Looks great, even better than the first time in 1969.
Pic below shows the Holden MD Mike Devereux MD (on left) and Rick Martin Technical Packaging Engineer (now retired from Holden) during the launch.
Here is a couple of Hurricane links.

So glad to see this stuff being saved and restored. When you look at the Hurricane and even more so the GTR-X which was so close to being a production model its amazing history. Imagine how much more advanced future models would have been had GMH held its nerve and produced the GTR-X. That Hurricane looks bloody fantastic.

I reckon if they stuck a V6 in it or a chev and produced it, they would still sell like hotcakes. They are both great looking cars!!

cheers

Hey All

Just thought i would share the pics i took of the Hurricane Unveil

Sorry for pic quality - Taken from a phone.

But for the folks that appreciate this kind of stuff - hope fully you can see past the pic quality

The MD Mike D introduced the car. They showed a 7 min video showing build pics and Holden archived images of the Hurricane at the PG (Proving ground)

They then drove her in fully restored after a 6 year restoration.

I got to say - Probably best sounding 253 I’ve heard - It was cool...

Just thought I’d share

Cheers Chriso

Hey craig

Looks great - Holden name it 'Coupe 60'

It was done as a GM 100 year anniversary / Holden 60th anniversary concept.

To me it is far more impressive than Camaro.

The Unveil had a great feel - and focus on holden's concepts.

Its surreal to see in the flesh on a daily basis when going to work.

Awsome

Admin - thanks for aligning the posts

Cheers Chriso

That Coupe 60 is still one of the nicest latest designed coupes that I have seen. Not a fan of late model cars but that its quite aggressive and I like the pillar-less doors. The late Monaro didn't do it for me but that works, such a shame GMH doesn't have the guts to build it.

Don't like the TT36 but that GTR-X would have been one hell of a sweet car. I still think it would have sold a lot more than the GMH penny pinchers thought it would have. Why the hell would you buy an lousy import if GMH was selling that GTR-X with its hot six. Even the cabin was damm sweet. I can't believe they got that close the brochures went out but stupidly they didn't put it into production.

I believe only one was made and a few clay models.

There is a clay model at Holden design.

Holden used it to match the paint for the restoration

The hurricane was on display at a few places even Echuca.

Rumor has it it was donated to a T.A.F.E. for students to practice painting on.
I can't confirm this my self but i did find a pic of it in silver ?

Cheers

You probably don't realise how close you are with that statement.

Man was on the moon in 1969 and coincidentally Ferrari had this car back in 69, the 512S from the Pininfarina design studio

There are also a few other Italian designs very similar to either GTR-X or the Hurricane from Alfa Romeo, De Tomaso and Lancia.

If you like this style of car, more here:

The GTB also has a very similar profile:

It really is sad that era of cars will never be repeated and we didn't actually get to see some of them on our roads.

Not everyone's cup of tea but still ....
