Next on the list was fitting a S13 Silvia brace ($65) in

Get a fabrication shop to make custom plates ($100) & good to go

Posted Image

Posted Image

Yes I know it's upside down - lol

Do you know any of the history of that TA22? I used to share house with a mate who was into these and had several of them when we lived at Holland park back between about 1998 and 2000.

He sold a blue one that looks exactly the same colour as the front bumpers and some of the panels you show- I don't think that was an original celica colour either. He sold it without the blue bonnet as he kept that for another car - that would be freaky if it was the same one.

I would even have some pics of it around here when it happened to be in the background of photos of my Torana.

great read, I have a soft spot for the old Celica's. I had one too with twin solexs and a Wade camshaft. I raced it a Winton a few times.

If it is the same blue one, I helped him pick it up from somewhere up at Gatton - it had a 2TGUE in it with a microtech controller - geesus christ it was fun and geez that was a long time ago.

I have cut and welded more rusted lower guards and sills out of TA22s than I care to remember back in the early nineties. Once those weatherstrips go on them, that's it the rust has them in no time.

Talk about a challenge welding those thin panels.

Matt,
The easiest way to determine whoever owned this car is that EVERYWHERE inside door panels / jams / engine bay

was either painted with that anti stone chip paint / solution or some knuckle head thought it was a good "idea" to add SAND to the paint !

Would've taken a team of 6 sand blasters a month to remove it all - We didn't ;)

The Celica was intentionally built for my Son to gain (race) wheel time up at the IWMAC dirt sprint track at Queensland Raceway.

Then with "experience" he was to move on to Lakeside, Morgan Park etc...

Due to youthful enthusiasm in his 5th(?) time around the circuit that day he was coming out of the last r/h bend,

down changed to 3rd @ about 80 MPH and hit the go pedal ! :driving:

The open diff made the r/h wheel grab, he over corrected left (still accelerating) :driving: , then over corrected right :driving: .

He spun the car 180 and hit the only thing on that part of the track of course...

A tyre bundle / wall squarely sideways at about 60 MPH

He sustained left to right whiplash & that screwed him for the next 6 + mths...

Car is now sitting forlornly here awaiting a new driver / buyer as I type :(

Not a lot of panel damage as such but I bet his neck in 25 years will be as nearly as manky as mine...

BTW, on the day he REFUSED to wear his racing neck support I bought :furious: as he said it was "uncomfortable" :wtf:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

He did get a trophy though, just not the one he wanted ! :nopity:
