A Buddy of mine is seriously considering purchasing this system from the states, with the view to offer potential car enthusiasts this amazing product. I was just wondering what peoples thoughts were on this product, and if anyone on this forum may have had anything like this done on various parts of their cars??......Please watch the link I have supplied, prior to making comments, for those that have yet to see what this bit of kit does.

Always questions with new stuff.
How cost effective compared to traditional chrome plating ?
How durable is it ? . UV resistance, scratch resistance, chip resistance ect
How heat resistant is it ?
What maintance is required to keep it looking it's best ?
What is it's life span on a componant ?

It is early days from where my mate sits.....he has been staying up during week nights until 2 am to speak directly to the mob that sells this system in Florida USA.
He is off in a few weeks to visit the supplier to attend a workshop so that he can make a more imformed decision as to whether sinking $25,000 into something that he cant see,touch from here in Australia.
From the little he has told me about it, is that it has a special primer of some sort that is applied, then the item to be sprayed is "watered down" with de-ionised water and then the chrome medium is applied once the item is completely covered in the water.
Once the item has cured, it is dried and then a high gloss clear is applied to further retain the chrome.
My explanation of the process is wishy-washy and not very detailed...but I am also informed that this will adhere to nearly anything...wood,foam, plastic,alloy, steel, my nan, and I am told is totally resists flexing and cracking. Unsure on whether it would have a high heat resistance as yet.
More info to be added as this comes to light, and my mate returns from the states.

Doesnt waste alot, as the only thing that you see getting sprayed mostly is de-ionised water( a de-ionising machine is supplied with the kit)......the chrome spray ,once it is applied, is only sprayed for no more than about a minute of so(depending on the size of the item of course) and is saved to a trap that is below the item being painted........this apparently can be sold to metal places at a later date for cash so that it can be re-invested into more of the chrome medium. The chemicles being sprayed arent cheap, but one batch supplied by the manufacturer will spray 500 square metres.

I hear a place in seven hills is spraying chrome in three steps, same as plating, copper/nickel/chrome.

Might be a very similar process TerrA...........It is hard to find quality traditional chromers these days.....In my opinion chrome plating isnt anywhere near as good as it was 10-15 years ago. Its usually way too thin, has imperfections and I have seen stuff rust from piting in the finish time and time again. I am not dis-crediting chromers, as there are alot of high quality guys out there that produce outstanding work, but the idea of this new stuff is quite entriguing to me, and I think that if it is highly durable, highly adhesive, and mostly produce a solid,well lasting high quality finish to items that are traditionally not able to be chromed......then fantastic!!
Re-chroming the plastic door trim moulds/piping on our cars springs to mind, and the possibilities as to what this product can be applied to, I guess, in the near future will be determined. It will be extensively tested in house on a variety of different items, to find its limits and to what it can be successfully applied to.

Saw this on Street Customs Germany, and it looked fab.
The water has a lot to do with it, or rather the purity of it. They killed their machine initially, as the water was so bad. SA folks take heed!!!!!
In the end they bought Evian bottles and used that!! LOL.
Looks damn good though.
I still have a can of spray on chrome, the type they banned about 15 years ago, and it still works!

Old mate says hes aware of the shi^$y water quality here in Radelaide, so has organised to get an industrial water purifier and filter set up also.

I saw a video on this on JayLenosGarage and thought it would be great to be able to run fibreglass bumpers and use this product to still give a chrome look. Of course the questions asked by HER 76 would be the first questions I would ask the supplier, make sure when the questions are answered they have test data to back up their claims.

I actually rang the Aus distributors of Spectra Chrome over 12 mths ago.
It's fairly dear as such because it uses a high SILVER (YES REAL SILVER) content.
The clear coat needs to be 100% perfect to not allow oxidization / tarnishing to the product.

So scratch the clear coat and it will oxidize? Altho Silver doesnt rust? might just loose its shine?

Yep, then the clear will go "off" too like in paint apps.
Not a great product where leading edges get wind buffed all the time.
May've upgraded the clear coat by now though ?

Hey, regards the water, yes, will definately need a purifier, regardless of any water type. The Ph and other characteristics need to be spot on for it to work. Very specific band/range.
