The 2.5T rating would be a staic rating. If the vehicle was under a bit of un-expected force (see above images), then the load could well go above the said rating.

At 10 G???

yeah, if the ship was on its side, perhaps, but general seas???

Even the ship on its side, generally ships dont fall over to one side quick enough, and then stop fast enough on a dime at a certain angle, to make close to the force required......

I had my car come off of a car trailer a couple years back with 8 2.5 tonne straps on it and every single one snapped. These were all top quality brand as well.

I guess the moral to the story is problems can happen no matter what, and it's just a matter of trying to take as much care and prepare as best you can if issues do come up.

I used to ship big heavy stuff all round the world in my last job and we fitted 3 axis impact recorders. Although not common, I have seen in excess of 5G recorded during heavy seas and this is on a 200+ ton item - imagine those forces. I am sure you could get higher readings if you tried long enough.

I've shipped plenty of stuff bigger than your little Cad ;)

Just sent a 26 foot sailboat actually...and have another just like it coming. Got a 21' wakeboard boat sitting at the warehouse now actually as well. (just had finished doing 6 containers and already have a couple worth of stuff nearly again)

Oh, and speaking of Cadillacs....just sent this too....

(no worries on the modifications...got an import approval with proof the work had been done before 1988)

Wow man.Years ago I used to work in Darling Harbour & Glebe on the RoRo ships & only one time during some very rough sees did they have 100+ brand new Vw's smashed to smithereens when a 30t machine broke loose on that deck sliding into all the cars.

Looks like the cars may not have been lashed down properly.Still a crap thing to happen & they should pay for it.

FWIW...last time I had a customer want it, it was for $20k and ran about $400 or so from memory..

The container lines are supposed to cover damage they cause anyways, like the T/A, but I guess fighting with them would be like fighting city hall....just banging your head against a wall over and over...

Oh, and on the Cadillac...it looked kinda cool from that distance, but did have some issues (the buyer in Oz paid for us to go look at the car a couple hours away before doing the deal directly with the seller here...so he is aware of it's issues and wanted it anyways)

In 2010, I shipped a 66 Mustang.
Insurance was approx $700 for $35k.
We used a container and it was well and truly strapped down ( and covered in plastic ).
No damage.

I think AQIS did more damage to my Caddy than the shippers did
It was detailed before shipment
And arrived looking worse for wear and filthy
