Guys, 2 years on from this original post, are these still considered crap, in particular this kit if it could be ordered with solid slotted disc?

Be looking at putting on a light LJ, so not as if it would be stopping a 1100kg car.  Call me overkill but I'd assume they'd be pretty unstressed at this size?

Thanks Guys

A9x the car would see street duties and occasional track work - like tuning days, the odd motorkhana,

sn007 did you go the 330 or std HQ kit?  I feel the hoppers 330 kit would be quite heavy (with a 1 piece rotor and something better than an AU twin piston caliper), so I'm after a kit with a 2 piece rotor with aluminium hat and bigger looking caliper (read: yeah call it wank factor if you like....)

Car will be running 16's; which I know will be damn tight with a 330 rotor...and only a handful of calipers will fit in that space.  I know an AP Caliper will fit (datto man what part # does Dave run?), but not sure about a dynalite 6 pot (assuming it's up to the tasks I'd be putting it through)

Ultimately I've set a challenge for myself to get a light 330 kit to suit the front under 16's for under $2500.....& yes I'm happy with a second hand set of calipers if that's what it takes.  Anybody know someone with a spare set of 6 pot AP's lying around, or an equivalent AMG / Brembo caliper if they'll fit?

Hard to say as I've never handled them in person

But its like anything... you get good and bad regardless of the country

I'd like to see one up close but till someone bites the bullet... not going to happen anytime soon

Well after a bit more reading I think you're talking to the one who bites bullets...

found the following on a Ford site of all places (http://passionford.c...o-race-5-a.html)

Datto this is the compbrake offering...putting your photographic memory to good use - notice any details in the below that differs from the AP CP5200?

500pics009.jpg

500pics008.jpg

IMAG0080.jpg

Quote from the guy who posted these photos: "As far as I'm aware they are from the same manufacturer the only difference being the AP are finished in powdercoat - all parts are the exact same"

From my comparisons they are a direct clone

What cha recon?

I think I'd give them a go

If they don't come with the pad anti rattle clips though make sure you get some of those too

Have you bought them yet or just keen ?

I know Dan355 was considering a set too

Might need to do a group buy....lol

Neato, well happy to group buy or go ahead by myself....makes no difference to me.

I guess first question is whether anybody has experience in buying stuff from the UK?

What's the best way to payment?

What about GST and import / customs duties?

Keep the bill under $1000 and customs shouldn't care... so no GST etc

I bought some AP's from there once

Freight was reasonable and quick

Fantastic!  Thanks guys.  Once the race car is sold I'll order a pair.  Datto I'll let you know once they arrive so you can give them the 'AP Racing' tick of approval!

Nah, they're APs, so I might as well just get them engraved with "AP Racing".  No brainer if you ask me!

Datto, would you be able to enlighten me of the specifics on Darren & Dave's setup - Putting your photographic memory to good use (again)....are you able to tell me what specs I need for the the 330 mm & AP setup (The plan is for this to go on an LJ):

Alloy Hats & 330mm Discs (from GSL Rallysport according to Dave)  Dave mentioned they may be commodore discs I'm after.  I want something that I can get replacement discs for easily.

What thickness disc should I be ordering?

Am planning to get stubs from stubtech.  Plan is to order then to suit HQ brake config.  Would I benefit going for a stub to suit something else (they might have one to run commodore brakes)

Apparently dave has a template for the caliper mounting bracket...but that's for fitting a HQ stub

Best master cyl to use?

Any idea if the front track will be altered?

Anything I'm missing please do suggest.

Finally - your opinion - am I over doing this for an LJ?  No It's not a targa car....yes it is a street car, but I will take it to the track and will expect it to go, stop and corner hard, lap after lap.

Appreciate your input in filling the blanks that have emerged in Dave's head...

Blanks in Daves head... never... lol

Why are you buying drop stubs ?

Daves and Darren I think use DBA5046 328 x 28mm discs

I can price these for you

Phil used Commodore pattern drop stubs from memory but the off the shelf brackets didn't fit so he had to fab his own

So either way you'll be making brackets...so stick with HQ setup rather than Commodore

Yes your overdoing it... but why not eh ?

We should all get together for a chat one day

As Neil said, thats the part number for the disc's. I looked it up the other night. Don't get the stub tech stubs, just use HQ-HZ stubs mate. You will be spending extra money for no real gain. And you don't really want to use a drop stub, the HQ stub will drop it about an inch anyway.

Thanks Fellas

Yep the stubtech stubs are now off the shopping list = bad idea for this application and waste of $$$...will get hold of standard HQ 1 tonner items

Neil yes please! I'd appreciate if you could let me know a price.  Bearing in mind I'm after 2 peice alloy hat/disc like dave to keep weight down, is the DBA5046 328 x 28mm the part # for the disc (no hub), the disc & hub, or a 1 peice disc?  (hopefully that makes sense).  Please quote me for pads at the same time....are DS2500's still the best way to go for street / occasional track?  I've got my heart set on the 2 piece config, so if these are not off the shelf, can you please guide me to who would be able to supply them?

Understood with the Caliper bracket - Dave has the template somewhere.  If he can't find it I'll just help myself to the ones on his car ;)

I Should take this opportunity to ask you about what I should match this combo with at the rears.

Yes I'd like the rears to have nice large wank factor discs too, however will begrudgedly go for what's the best match to the front (and the car's rear weight - or lack thereof)

I plan to run a shortened borg warner BW78 out of a skyline / falcon / VN with the drum handbrake config and some sort of disc and caliper combo.  What do you recommend?

Phew, and finally, yes I'd love to catch up and see your friendly face again.  PM me if / when you have a date in mind :)
