Hi guys/gals. Been lurking for a while, so decided to post now I have a specific problem.

The specific (current) issue is the plenum chamber panel. After searching here, it seems to be a common problem. I remember the car leaking. After closer inspection, it's a mess, and has been for a long time. The previous owner seems to have patched the leaking problem with fibreglass. But the engineer ain't gonna like that.

I've been searching around the interwebs for a replacement panel. I understand the UC is a match. Nothing to be found and that panel looks like a right b*tch to replicate.

Anyone know where the lower plenum chamber panel can be found?

I doubt one is available. I actually partly removed one in a car I owned. It just meant that car would only get recirculated air into the heater box and had one lees place for the leaves to accumulate and cause further rust.

No such replacement panel. You have to drill out the spot welds, cut out along the A pillar remove it and begin repairs... If it is like most, repairs will be extensive... OH a great tip, take the rubber hose off from the plenum to the guard, it will catch on fire when you weld near them haha.

Thanks for the tip. That hose is pretty much the last removable thing left on the car.

May have a tidy donor car lined up. 4 door UC that I was reluctant to buy just for front end bits. But such is life. The panel on this hatch is obliterated right through. I swear there's more fibre glass than steel. I'm no fabricator, but it doesn't look fixable from underneath.

Cheers fellas

Mine was the same as yours, Fibreglass and bog...It's terrible.

I found the only way to fix is to take cover off and do it that way.

The plenum chamber where it rusts out once the cover is drilled out and removed.

That's handy if you have a NOS piece or a very VERY good donor. Most of us don't have that though.

If there was a machinist among us, and they made a tool for this panel, maybe somebody could punch a few out??

cheers

Hmmm, I may have to have a word with Retro Rods here and see if they can punch one out, if enough interest is guaged.

I think I used rare spares HD/HR or similar and adjusted the length, not quite the same bend but fit well enough.
