ive always been a big fan of old holdens since i was little and a lh torana was within my price range and i loved the fact they came out with v8s!
so after many months of searching for one, i found this torana on carsales in july this year, a original owner since 1974, everything came with it like log books, heaps of spare parts etc etc
it had done 300 odd thousand k's still with the original 173 and collum shift manual, it also came with bucket seats which the owner said they were original from the factory. i drove it an hour home and it ran like a dream!
i got it home and drove it around for about a week, then got stuck into stripping it down. i was surprised to find that the floor didnt even have a spec of rust in it! both lower qauter panels were completly rusted out and had been bogged up at some stage. it had the usual rust around the windows and in the engine bay like behind the hinges and under the battery tray and the radiator support panel, but other than that it was in pretty good condition.
Recently ive been spending hours on the engine bay, ive fixed all the rust in the bay, smoothed it out the best i can. Now its all ready for paint. Im also in the process of getting the front end together.
My plans for the car is:
350 chev
turbo400
9 inch diff
Mini tubbs (Still undecided on rear suspension)
Hq brakes ( still trying to work it all out haha)
I would of loved to gotten further than i have with the car, but being on 2nd year apprentice wages with 2 cars makes it hard to buy the parts i need to keep the project going smoothly.
Although having friends that are sand blasters and mechanics does help!
