I experienced my first Toranafest on the weekend and i was very impressed with the running of the event from all angles , mick and pete and your team at HVTC deserve a pat on the back , well done guys .
The saturday night meet and greet dinner was a great night also , was great to chat to the legends and owners . Ha ha the J.D,s went down well too.
A great allround mixture of different toranas some modified and some concourse from all models and never have i seen so many torry,s in one place at the same time , just awesome cars and an appreciation for the work gone into them.
And mostly amazing the friendly atmosphere of the torana owners , especially the canberra torana club guys and girls and for there generous hospitality , the bacon and egg sanga,s sunday morning were bloody good , thanks Laurie !!
If Nigel and Kathlene are listening thanks for the seat on an enjoyable cruize saturday arvo in your lovely ultra blue 4 door .

I,ll be back !!

Cheers Shaun.

My pick for Toranafest was Craig Ballards schmick red LX Hatchback with no flares but 6L motor and 6sp box and el-neato alloys.

Interior was also tops :spoton:

I heard it got great MPG or litre/Km thingy which would put most modern cars to shame.

Great day as usual, but once again my pride & joy lost some more paint, every time I take it out it comes back with at least one more scratch or paint missing from belt buckles from people leaning into the hatch and rubbing my carpet or taking off my power steering resivoir cap to see if it has any oil in it, Its nice carpet but WTF by christ is only carpet and a plastic cap.

I caught one eight year old girl that lent on a 45 deg angle at the left headlight then continued the walk along the whole side of the car wiih her sholder hard into all the panels smacking her head on the mirror along the way to the left tail light, I yelled out to her to get off the car, so she turned around then put her right sholder into the rear quater and again run along the car to the front again hitting the mirror on the way through. The parents looked on and when she finished posishing the left side of my car with her sholder and jumper the mother said to her distructive daughter lets go and looked at me as if I was the big meanie. Grrrrr, no sorry or telling off thier kid. When ever I took my kids to a car show when they were young the were told to not get any closer than a meter and never did.

Next time I take the hatch out to a show I am taking the cricket bat. ( Not happy Jan.)

The only real negative for the day (for us) was when I had an interesting conversation with a whack job, first off telling me that Dad's XU-1 was a 72 model (its an August 73 model...) Then after he looked at the plates he changed his mind....

Then, after asking about the restoration work, I told him that it was damaged down the passengers side and sat in a shed from the mid 80s, until we pulled it out in the late 90s. It was repaired using NOS panels bought back when first damaged etc etc.

He then looked at the chassis number (which was masked when the bay was painted, so is bare metal compared to the black bay) and told me that the car had been rebirthed?

I politely told him he needed to be very careful about saying things like that to people as its a pretty serious accusation to make, not only about someones pride and joy, but legally too.... bloke was just a moron I think.

^^^ RichoX1 maybe, then again maybe not cause 1972 don't exist LOL.

Hi all , To Mick and the Team at Hunter Valley Torana Club ,this is the second time i have attened TORANAFEST. I would like to thank you for another great year as you & your team know how to put on the greatest car show in Australia.
One thing i noticed is all torana owners were great people to talk to and have one thing in common,LOVE their Toranas just like me.
I have owned my A9X for 26 years & after seeing what goes on at the FEST { ,cars ,music ,ex-drivers, torana fans } It is a must for all of you with toranas to try and attend.
Shaun ,sorry but the glory of 1st place in top comp car is mine this year, hopefully next year toranafest will be yours
Hope to see you all next year
Cheers Chris

My first fest as well and I must say I have been bitten BAD. Will be doing my best to get my torrie ready and up there for the 20th anniversary (anyone wanna buy a boat?) :dontknow: , but may just take it as is if it's not done anyway. A BIG thanks to pop's-SS for the seat in the cruise and to Rob for letting me hang with you for the weekend.

Well I got it up already.... the picture that is, we won at the auction (Thanks Laurie) it is on the wall behind the Strike Me Pink car with my other pictures and our jukebox. It only just fitted in the back seat of the car, glad we brought down the two cars or would have had trouble bringing it home. Sure someone else from the club would have helped us with it

It is a shame we all only get together once a year but if any of the forum members come to sunny Queensland let us know it would be good to catch up with you while you are here.

All the best
Ronnie and Suzanne

Chris , i,m ok with that , your car did look fantastic but i have had the glory of 5 years of group C racing in the old girl dent free ,thats my trophy !! its a race car , driven hard and cops lots of rubber , stones , sandblasting , etc from the track .
My attitude has changed years ago from concourse to trying to get up the pointy end of the field , i normally don,t do the carshow stuff , i love the racing and thats what i prefer Chris ...
Maybe next year when the group C XU1 is ready for the track i,ll retire the A9X and consider giving it a birthday present with some fresh paint .
Was great to talk to you on the weekend.

ps.. if you can drive Chris then it would be brilliant to see you and your nice black hatch on the track ..

Hi, had a very busy Toranafest weekend, shame that we were all too busy to speak to everyone.

Great to catch up with Ronnie & Suzanne again (lucky I have no room left on my shed walls or you may have had some competition in the auction!!!)
