Yes308 is a random plate in Canberra not personalised this car was owned by a guy called tony sari who ran an auto auction shop in Manuka called Manuka Motor Auctions in the 70s
Hi Al, this is interesting. I have a contact in the ACT rego dept, will see if I can do a check on YES 308. Did ACT have personalised numbers back in 1972, as I presume YES 308 was not a random issue number.

YES308 would be a 1972 issue plate, I found Tony, he had the car in 1972, so it cant be my LJ Torana, as GMH Salmon street Port Melbourne still had my LJ
AL
Thought it could have been mine Al. Same colour, right timeframe & location. When did it score its V8.

They built 1, for Bob Morris. Bob told me about the car years ago. He was at the lights and a few guys in a Monaro tried to trag him off thinking it was a standard XU1 as it looked completely stock. He blew them away, they all pulled over and looked over the car. I doubt it had any reference to being a 308 on the plates. Bob or Ron could tell you more.
Ron Hodgson Racing in Sydney built The Red V8 XU-1 Car in 1972, it had a 308 V8 in it, they tried to rego it in NSW, but wasn't allowed, so they took it and rego it in ACT YES308, tried to transfer the rego from ACT to NSW, but not on, sold it and it ended up in Tony Sarri Dealership, he said that Ron Hodgson Racing built 10 V8 LJ XU-1's, mmmmmmmmmmmmmm very interesing

Gday Al,
Have done some checking on ACT reg YES-308. ACT reg archives only go back as far as 1975. To find an earlier first registered vehicle it needs to be still registered in 1975. But nothing could be found, so car must have gone from ACT by 1975. The first record of YES-308 was in 1991 when it was reissued & attached to a Ford Fairlane. It was reissued again in 2005 & was attached to a 1970 LC Torana which came from NSW, with a 186P engine no. It is currently attached to this vehicle & was last registered in 2009. I was hoping that the red XU1 in your story may have been my car, but another dead end.
I am still working on the Adelaide dealer built cars. Will let you know when I have some info.
Regards Pete.
Hi Al,
Would be interesting to see what chassis number Vic Roads have recorded for R/N LJ 308, if it can be found. ACT Roads had no early records for YES308, as per my above explanation, which would appear to be correct, as Frank said it was first reg in ACT as YES308, then he bought it in VIC in 1974 as LJ 308 & sold it after 8 years, which would be 1982. My car came to SA in 82/83. Could be a coincidence!
Pete.
